I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. The topic was very interesting. He certainly made me think in a new way. His theories made sense. I did like his use of charts, because that helped clarify his points. I liked that he added a glossary, so I understood why he quoted certain people in his book. I did like that he respected the eschatological points of other world religions. The book is well edited with no errors, so that helped the reading move along. The author did lay out the subject matter very well.
This is a nonfiction book. The writer does provide a glossary and many tables. This helps the reader understand his sources and reasoning. The author is theorizing when the end of the world will happen. He writes from the Jewish perspective. He does mention other eschatological perspectives from other world religions. However, all his main sources, how he derived at his timeline and explanations come from a Jewish perspective.
I am not a Jewish reader. I do not hold all the Jewish sources mentioned to the same level of authority. These sources made it difficult to stay interested in the reading, because I was not familiar with Jewish history or prominent Jewish leaders. Not having that familiarity made me question the author’s conclusions and theories.
I also thought this book was written like a thesis paper. The repetitive information of the book’s outline made it boring to read. However, that did not stop my reading. I just do not agree with the main theories of this book. So, not agreeing with the author’s points and finding it difficult to stay interested in reading the material is why I did not give it 4 stars. However, I would recommend this to an educated Jewish person interested in eschatology. They may love his use of Jewish history and sources to validate his theories. It is a different way of thinking and viewing history.
In having read eschatological books written from a Christian perspective, from Dr. David Jeremiah and others, it was interesting to find many commonalities. Both perspectives agree that human history is leading up to a culminating point. Both suggest a period of great duress prior to a period of great peace. There are other points of commonalities, but I am not going to list them all. This author presents a new spin on what drives the eschatological timeline. I found his spin to be interesting. Overall, I would recommend this book to other readers and to be read in a non e-book format due to all the tables, charts and the much needed glossary.
