Raven’s Peak by Lincoln Cole is the first book in the fantasy horror series, ‘World on Fire’. It draws you in from the very beginning with the Reverend, Arthur, who is locked away by his own accord in a special kind of jail. He is dealing with intense inner struggles with his faith and the evils of the world that he just cannot fight anymore. The author puts you right inside Arthur’s mind and you are able to see right into his soul.

Arthur is coerced in to going back into the real world to go and save the only thing he still cares about, his adopted daughter Abigail. You go on a journey with him to the quiet little town of Raven’s Peak where he needs to face an unusual enemy in order to save her.

A couple of months later you switch over to Abigail’s search to get Arthur back and you get drawn into her world of demon hunting and her inner battles as she tries to find him against all odds and much more seriously, against the Councils’ wishes. She happens upon naïve Haatim who is in a spot of danger related to her world. He ends up accompanying her on her adventures and you get to see through the eyes of someone who is seeing everything for the first time too.

I absolutely loved the fast paced, graphic style of writing of this fictional book. It really puts you right there in the characters shoes and does not let you go until the very end. You get to go through the inner turmoil’s of each character as if it were you experiencing it yourself.

There were just two things I was a little bit disappointed in. Firstly, I felt that Haatim’s character was not built enough. So much effort was put into Arthur and Abigail’s characters that Haatim is sort of left a bit under developed until quite far into the book and even then you don’t really know who he truly is. Secondly, I found there were a couple of editing errors that were carelessly looked past.

Overall I still absolutely loved the book and gave it 3 out of 4 stars as the writing was incredible but just lacked the finishing touches of proper editing. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a good adventure, action or even a gruesome mystery book.
