This book Escape by Belle Ami is book One of Tip of the Spear series. It is a thriller cum romantic book and the story is based in the Middle East country of Iran.

Cyrus Hassani is a Mossad agent on a mission, working undercover as assistant to deputy director of Oghab2, Iran’s secret organization, which is authority for the country’s nuclear ambitions. He is a cold-hearted ruthless killer with single minded devotion to his mission who believes or trusts no one.

Layla Rose Wallace is a fiery, auburn-haired Harvard doctorate student of art and history on vacation with her Saudi boyfriend to Dubai . When her boyfriend gets kidnapped from the hotel there, Layla is also abducted for being at wrong place and at wrong time and both are taken to Tehran. However, her boyfriend’s father pays the ransom and gets him recued whereas Layla is left in lurch.

Layla’s father is a renowned nuclear physicist and his invention could be misused by any terrorist organization if it comes to their knowledge. So, he takes the help of Israel to rescue his daughter and avoid becoming a target for blackmail.

Thus, Cyrus Hassani finds himself being assigned to rescue Layla Wallace from Tehran and reach her safely to Israel, or on failing that, he is ordered to kill her. His cover blown up and his adversary in hot pursuit, Cyrus has a limited time to plan their escape.

The rest of the book is about their escape and strong attraction to each other. Cyrus Hassani’s dormant passion flares up and he is fighting both his strong adversaries out to kill him and his growing attraction for Layla. He tries to resist his attraction to Layla, but slowly come to care deeply for her. When at a point, all their escape avenues are closed, he realizes he has feelings for her and will be unable to kill her. His protectiveness and caring makes Layla fall for him hard. She realizes that her boyfriend was just an immature lad who deserted her at the first opportunity and that what she felt for Cyrus was deep affection and a trust that he would not abandon her. Their romance is nicely developed by the author.

The background of the plot is quite different and refreshing. However, I feel the explicit sex scenes and too much romance steals the seriousness of the story. Overall, it is an entertaining book for one time reading. The narration is sleek and has no loose ends. I would recommend it as a light travel reading book. The books will appeal to young readers and those who like explicit romantic scenes . Hence, I would rate the book as 3 out of 4 stars.
