This is the official review for the book Roan: The Tales Of Conor Archer: Volume 1 by E.R.Barr, which is available in Amazon.
The book is a fantasy fiction, which is recommended for mature adults who love fiction, mystery and mysticism. The story’s hero is a teenager boy, who is forced to move from Chicago to rural Wisconsin by a turn of events. He is guided and motivated towards discovering the purpose of his life by some mystical characters. And then in the fight between the good and the evil, the youngster is put through several hardships while transforming into what he needs to become. The story is full of Celtic, Irish and Native American way of mystical living, happenings and practices.
The sparkling gold-flecked eyes of the ‘dark’ ones, the evil that is present deep in the Earth and manifests itself as the river beast, the transformations that happen in the body of the hero character ‘Conor’, the magical abilities of the local priest ‘Abbot’, Conor’s father ‘Madoc’, and Madoc’s brother ‘Rory’, humans changing form into animals or birds and back, Conor accessing the past and the future, Abbot’s and Conor’s aunt Emily’s lives spanning many centuries, the mystical ship that’s hidden in a cave which eventually sails in the Wisconsin river etc. all leave the reader awestruck and keep the story ticking in a very interesting way.
Enchanting is the word that I would use to describe the way of storytelling. I like the pace of the story. I like the way the characters are built in a strong way. The story will attract young and mature adults alike. But I am hesitant to recommend this book to young adults because of gory violence and some pervert actions narrated which might need parental guidance. Formatting is good throughout the book but editing has missed correcting spelling mistakes. For example, ‘fetus’ is misspelt ‘feturs’ in the Chapter “THE WORM UNCOILS”.
Overall, I would like to call this book an epic! The author keeps the reader enthralled with a very good pace. The reader is enchanted by various mystical characters and happenings. I would really love to give this book a 4 out of 4 rating. But since the book may not suit all audiences because of the violence and goriness towards the end of the story, and also since editing has not discovered and corrected the spelling mistakes, I rate this book 3 out or 4 stars.

The book takes off in style with ballads and prologue. I have started reading. Your review calls it epic. Yes it is interesting and long. I just came to know that this is only volume 1 and there is more to come.
