Solaris Seethes (Solaris Saga Book 1) by Janet McNulty is an action-packed sci-fi novel perfect for all ages. It features Rynah, who at the start of the novel, witnesses the destruction of her home by the hands of her fiancé, Klanor. She must now find a way to stop Klanor from retrieving six crystals that holds immense power, enough power that together, can be used as a dangerous weapon. Rynah, with the help of Solaris, her sassy ship, recruits four humans from Earth to withhold a prophecy that Rynah does not quite believe in.
Alfric the Warrior, Solon the Philosopher, Tom the Inventor, and Brie the Lover, are all key players in Rynah’s plan to stop Klanor and save her home. Together, they go through many perilous adventures and unexpected setbacks that keep the reader on their toes, anticipating what will happen next.
From the first scene, I was captivated by the action that was unfolding with every page. There was never a dull moment where I wanted to put the novel down. The action scenes were well written, transporting me alongside the characters. Some scenes did seem predictable at first, but there was always a curve ball that made it interesting.
I enjoyed that each character had a purpose and changed as the story went on. The characters were relatable and complimented each other well. Even Klanor, who is portrayed as a typical villain had a slight softness towards Rynah that added some realism to him as a character. Solaris, a ship with artificial intelligence, was particularly interesting. She was designed by Rynah’s grandfather and played a vital role in the novel. She could do many things, from transporting the humans to simply being a friend to some of the characters. These friendly interactions with Solaris and the other characters were important to being able to see how they were really feeling and introduced some backstory.
The author brings in some real life values that all readers can understand. It shows how very different people can somehow come together and fight for what they know is right, no matter how difficult a feat that may be. The author also shows that courage is not always about not being afraid to fight, but may be about simply loving someone enough to do anything for them.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because it is well written and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.There were very little grammatical errors and seems professionally edited. I recommend this book to readers who enjoy sci-fi novels filled with adventure. There is no vulgarity or sexuality in this book which makes it appropriate for all ages.
