Keys to Tetouan goes through the history of a Jewish family which struggles to come to terms with their identity. The family left Tetouan when the Jewish people were being oppressed during World War 2. Since then, they have always been trying too get back.

I had a hard time getting into this book. I can't say that I enjoyed it since I was only really invested in the last few chapters. The book was confusing and I didn't realize that each chapter was about different people until I was about halfway through the book. I also had some editing issues so I can only give this book 1 out of 4 stars. I will get into my issues in the next paragraphs.

My first issue with the editing is that there aren't spaces between some words. I counted how many pages had this issue and I came up with nineteen. It wasn't a huge deal for me but it does make the book harder to enjoy. Some examples would be lookfor and youover. As you can see it's not hard to read but it does make you do a double-take and takes you out of the story.

Another issue I had was that the author seemed to constantly mix up words. There were countless instances where merci was written instead of mercy. It wasn't particularly hard to understand for me but I could see how some people could be confused. Another point was where he wrote marring instead of marrying. Again, I didn't have a problem but I could see how some people might wonder why he was hurting the girl he was supposed to be marrying.

My last issue would be the long paragraphs. Some of them lasted for over a whole page where there were obvious paragraph breaks where all the author had to do was press enter. Long paragraphs make the book seem longer and more formidable than it actually is and they don't give the readers places to breathe and soak in what they just read.

In conclusion, the writing of this book was confusing and made it hard to enjoy. The editing mistakes took you out of the story and made it even less enjoyable. My only pluses are that the book got more interesting as it went on and the editing mistakes got fewer and farther between. I would not recommend this book.
