Raven's Peak: (World on Fire Book 1)

Written by: Lincoln Cole

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars

This book is a fictional story that contains a lot of action, mystery and suspense mixed with the paranormal. The story is based in a small mountain town that starts out with strange happenings, weird behavior and missing persons, to include murder. It doesn’t just stop there. The story has all kinds of twists and turns and definitely delivers an unexpected solid punch in every chapter. Just when you think you can predict something happening, it turns on you and gives you something unexpected.

I have to honestly say that I enjoyed this book. Although I liked the story for several reasons, I give it a 4 star rating just on the action content alone. The book started out strong on a cliffhanger action scene that leaves the reader big time curious on what in the heck actually happened. You are left feeling angry that it happened, mystified as to how exactly it happened and appalled that someone had to endure all of that. It was definitely a strong way to begin the book.

The leading male and female characters in the book are charismatic and draw you into the story fairly quickly. The leading male character starts off a little weak (his personality) and he grows stronger as the story goes on. You see his development into that stronger character step by step. The lead female character is one that carries a scarred past that makes the reader feel deep sympathy with her. Just how much she actually went through comes out as the story goes on and you wonder just how in the world she stayed sane. Her personality is that of a very strong woman that takes up for herself and can definitely take care of herself, and others. She is sent out to investigate what is happening in the mountain town of Raven’s Peak that is causing so much chaos. The investigation uncovers something that happened to her in her fairly recent past and tests her resolve and skills.

You find yourself going through all kinds of emotions as you go through the story. You feel what the characters are feeling. I haven’t read many books by authors that can do this. It isn’t an easy thing to do, but this author managed to accomplish it with me. I am not easily impressed, but I was with this book. I am usually picky with the books I read but this one was just my taste. There are some scenes described in the book that can make some people feel a bit queasy because the scene is described so graphically, but that is what I loved about it. I love to use my imagination and this book didn’t disappoint.

Starting with the first action scene I mentioned above, they get more intense throughout the story. It’s a constant roller coaster that will leave you on the edge of your seat. I really got into the book and had a very hard time putting it down to even work or go to sleep. You go through all kinds of emotions and adventures in this book. Mystery after mystery keeps you hooked on it. You find yourself being disgusted by the despicable acts of paranormal creatures and humans alike, and yet still manage to feel a strong bond with the two main characters.

The story definitely makes you think deeper into things as you are riding along on the Raven’s Peak magic carpet ride. You feel strong hatred, intense longing, sadness, sympathy, wonder, amazement and fear. Those are the strongest emotions that stood out while I read this book. If you are the type of person that needs steady periods of peace and tranquility (which I find a little too boring sometimes) in a story, this book is not for you. There is constant action that would definitely entertain and satisfy the biggest heavy-action junkie. I am definitely going to read the rest of the books in this series. I have got to know how this whole story progresses. I can say that there wasn’t anything I didn’t like about the book. It was just my style.

I strongly recommend this book if you are into stories with lots of action, mixed with mystery, and the paranormal.
