Hapless Underdog Meets Demon Hunter
Abigail Dressler is a tough, fierce and well-trained demon hunter on a personal mission. She is searching for her mentor and father, the man who sacrificed himself willingly and without qualm to save her; she will keep searching, even if that means losing it all. Her orders come from a shadowy group called The Council; she is to search for and destroy the demons of The Ninth Circle wherever they are and no matter what the personal cost may be. Those orders don’t include a search for her father, and she risks repercussions as she is already on shaky ground with The Council.
Haatim Arison is an aimless graduate of theology school, unable to move past the death of his 16-year-old sister and is at odds with both parents; the estrangement from his stern and distant father most of all. While sitting in a quiet library in Phoenix one afternoon, despondent and trying to decide what to do with his life, he is approached by an unkempt and slovenly stranger who wants to hire him to find a woman he claims is trying to kill him. Deciding that a little extra money for what seems like a small and simple task, Haatim takes the job.
Haatim learns quickly that he has stumbled onto something dangerous beyond anything he’s ever experienced, and when Abigail saves him from certain death, they find themselves bound together when Abigail is summoned by The Council to an old mining town located in the Rocky Mountains. Raven’s Peak is a small sleepy town where nothing much happens, but The Council has received word that something has happened to the townspeople there. They want Abigail to investigate.
Raven’s Peak is book one of a three part series, World on Fire. Lincoln Cole delivers well in this fast-paced and hard-to-put-down first installment. I found the two main characters believable and likable, the dialogue smooth, the pace just right, the action adrenaline-inducing, and the book was difficult to put down. The story flowed well and smoothly, following the pace of the book with ease. I found myself looking forward to reading the 2nd and 3rd installment, Raven’s Fall, and Raven’s Rise.
I recommend Raven’s Peak and rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. Anyone that likes demonic horror, mysteries, and paranormal fiction will love Raven’s Peak. It is a classic tale of good triumphing over evil, finding strength of character through challenge, and faith in the face of danger. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the story in Raven’s Fall and Raven’s Rise.
