I rate Raven's Peak 3 out of 4 stars. This book was a paranormal adventure of two lead characters- Abigail and Haatim. Abigail is a hunter of paranormal creatures, namely demons. Haatim is a recent college graduate hired to follow Abigail, but quickly realizes he is in way over his head, and has been destined to be for quite some time. Abigail is sent to a small town- Raven’s Peak- to investigate strange paranormal activity, and Haatim follows along, somewhat unwillingly. There, they find more demons than they are prepared to face and must work together to save themselves and the people of the town.

One reason I did not give Raven's Peak 4 out of 4 stars is the prologue. The prologue was really more of a first book within the book, much lengthier than any other prologue I’ve ever read. This in itself was not a problem, however the material is very vague and I often wondered if I had missed the prequel to this book because I found myself lost and I didn’t get any answers to what was happening. The prologue actually included different characters than the rest of the book, however these characters were mentioned throughout the rest of the book. I had to reread sections many times because I felt like I was missing important details about the background of the characters. These questions were never answered and left me feeling a little frustrated.

Once I got past the prologue, the book began to make more sense. Although most parts of the prologue were not readdressed, beyond that I felt like the book provided good character development and background information for what was needed to understand the characters and the plot. The book kept my attention and interest in what was happening to Abigail and Haatim and the rest of the people on their journey.

One other issue I found with the book was the pace. Things seemed to happen too quickly and I felt more detail could have been added to benefit the story in some parts. At one point, Abigail and Haatim go on a mission to find an artifact. Haatim is knocked unconscious and by the time he wakes up, Abigail has found the artifact and is prepared to move on. The end of the book particularly moved very fast as if the author wanted to wrap things up and move on without adequately explaining the rest of the journey. This could be because there appears to be a sequel to the book in the works, however I would have liked to finish on a strong note with more information.

Overall, I really enjoyed Raven's Peak. The storyline and plot were interesting and the book definitely took some turns I didn’t expect. I enjoyed that this wasn’t a typical “boy meets girl and forms unlikely romance” story, yet Haatim and Abigail formed an unlikely bond of friendship and teamwork that made their story more believable and a better partnership for their journey. The writing was very well done and I found no major grammatical flaws. I look forward to more work from this author and a continuation of the storyline found in Raven's Peak.
