The Bonding by Imogen Keeper is a science fiction romance which I rated as 3 out of 4 stars. The book was well written and made for an easy read. The Bonding would appeal most to a mixed audience of young adults who enjoy supernatural romance novels and do not mind explicit sex scenes. Imogen Keeper introduced a fresh and exciting concept to the often stale science fiction romance novel.

Nissa is Queen-designate of Triannon, who witnesses mass murder of her people, by the savage off-worlders, the Vestige, Nissa’s only hope of helping her people is to leave Trian on a pod. The Trianni people only have a 100 pods and the fate on many will be dependent on a lottery to select who will use the pods. Tam is a warrior of the Tribe of Argentus. He is a deadly force to reckon with. When Nissa is found almost five hundred years later by Tam orbiting the galaxy, he will do anything to save and keep her alive before the Blue tinge disease claims her life, but to keep her alive Tam has to give her his serum. Will the Bonding make or break them, will they survive it? Will Tam give up Nissa to return to her planet and save her people, even though it might kill him? Will Nissa be able to fulfill her Queen designate destiny?

I enjoyed the uniqueness of the book, it showed that sometimes when in a relationship we question ourselves as to the real reasons that keep the bond between partners. What should have been an easy bonding is complicated by the fact that Nissa is Queen designate and has a responsibility to her people even before she can consider her own happiness.

Is there a limit to how much one soul can love another? Such question is explored in this book that features a compelling blend of romance and fiction. The plot is well placed and the reader can’t help but go on reading to find out what happens to the characters.

My only issue with the book, is how often the sex scenes took place, after a while it becomes too much of the same scene. The Bonding will transport readers into realities that will make them dream and long for a love that is both redeeming and lasting. I will recommend this book to anyone wishing to indulge in a science fiction romance novel.
