Raven's Peak by Lincoln Cole centers around two people who seemingly have nothing in common, get pitched in together to save a town from evil.

Haatim, a depressed blogger, is thrown into a tizzy when he meets a mysterious man seeking his help. Abigail, a hunter, is on a personal mission to find a person dear to her while trying to complete her job. Suddenly, their paths cross and tangle as they try to solve the mystery of Raven's Peak and discover something new about themselves.

The prologue is intense and amazing. Rarely do I find a book interesting judging by the prologue alone. But in this instance, it got me hooked and kept me looking forward.

I liked Abigail a lot! She’s a bad-ass heroine. She’s knows how to fight but aware that she can also be vulnerable. There are a couple of impressive secondary characters as well. One would be The Reverend, who reminds me of a person’s dual nature.

How the setting of Raven’s Peak is written, is also good. I can almost feel the eeriness of the place, like I’m watching a movie instead of reading a book. Actually, not just the setting of Raven’s peak is like a movie set. It’s all those places where the heavy actions are taking place also plays in a cinema-like display in my head.

No or minimal cliché. If there were any, I didn’t even notice. Hurrah for that! There's just so many cliché used particularly in paranormal or horror genre.

But on the negative side, I sometimes find the male lead character a bit whiny for my taste. A couple of times I just want to go inside the book and shout “Dude! Get yourself together!” He can be too demanding once in a while as well, often ignoring the fact that they are in a bad situation.

Also, no matter how much I like Abigail, I was a bit disappointed on how she treated Frieda, a secondary character who’s very concerned about her.

Lastly, there was so much mystery and questions presented but very little resolution offered. I hope the next book in the series would answer more of the questions.

All in all, I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars because it is full of action and mystery. Definitely an entertaining read. However, because there were also some parts that were boring for me, I can’t give it a perfect 4.
