Escape is a romantic fiction by Belle Ami that tells the story of a young woman who is kidnapped together with her Saudi boyfriend in Dubai and taken to Iran. The book being a romance novel has brought out the theme of love. Love in this book is found in the most unexpected place and it is an interesting read on how the love blooms. The reader also gets an understanding of those that live life in the front line as they protect their country.

The love story is beautifully written and wrapped up in an interesting series of events. The events through which the drama unfolds captivate the reader. This is done without taking away the focus from the main love story. The love story has been woven into the reality of war in the Middle East. This is clearly brought out through the characters and the challenges they face and have to overcome. The characters have been fully developed; thereby one gets a good understanding of who they are and what they are about.

Escape is the kind of book that captures the reader’s interest. This is the kind of book that once you start reading, you simply cannot put down as you want to know how the story ends. The description of characters, places and events taking place is done with such clarity. A very clear picture is painted for the reader. It is almost as though one is watching a movie.

Love and war are the spices that this book is made of. I enjoyed reading the book because these two have been mashed up in the most interesting way. I liked how the author brings out pertinent issues with regard to the setting of the book. For instance the challenge of dating someone from a different race, rape and violence meted out on captives, the struggle faced by people trying to escape from captivity among other issues related to the kind of environment in which the book has been written.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. Besides the fact that happy endings are always a favorite, the events leading up to the end are mesmerizing. There are moments when the reader will hold their breath in anticipation of what will happen next.

This book will be a hit among lovers of romantic books. It is simply a beautiful love story. I would however not recommend it for younger readers due to the sexual content.
