The book Walking-In-Blind is written by Kaviru Gayathri Samarawikarma and is a collection of Poetry. The poetry is inspired by the authors personal experiences and experiences of people she has come across in life.

The poetry in the book is divided into five parts. The book takes us on a journey of personal growth which is reflected in the way the book is written. The poetry sings about love and betrayal, the fight to push through the difficulties, the lessons learnt in life and words of inspiration for those looking for clarity. The last part has poetry that is mostly whimsical in nature.

The book shows us how a girl grows into a women, the struggles, judgment, loneliness and even depression that a lot of women go through on a daily basis and how they eventually learn and overcome it all, making themselves stronger.

When I started reading the book, I didn't quite like the initial feel of it. There were mistakes with punctuation, grammar, line spacing and even font sizes. A few of the words used in the poems seemed confusing in context and the train of thought was not clear. All these problems almost made me stop reading the book. However, these errors were only in the first part of the book called 'X Marks the Heart'. In this part the poems were quite sad and most of it felt like the story of young love and the heartbreak that comes with it. In this part, after a while, the poems felt a little repetitive in their emotions.

Fortunately, the book does get better after the initial 60 pages or so. The second part is called 'Crossing Broken Bridges'. In this part we see growth in the topics and in the way the poetry is written I almost cried reading the poem named 'The Gateway to the Other Side'.

I think I would have enjoyed the book more if it had started with the second part. Continuing the improvement, the author has written three more parts called 'Through the Looking Glass' , 'Painting Collateral Damage' and 'Improbable Things'. These parts had poems that were much more empowering and I found the poem named 'Pretty Hurts' to be brilliant. The self respect that a women should have which I found missing in the first part of the book was definitely found in the end.

There is a lot of hurt and pain in the poems. But it is the kind of hurt and pain that almost all of us go through, some in same and some in different ways. No life is devoid of it. We all learn to appreciate the happiness that we receive with much more gratitude because of all the pain we have felt. The author shows us this side of humans with her poetry which is quite simply written. The only thing that I think would have made the book better was if the first part was written as well as the last three.

Overall, the book is worth reading at least once since some of the poetry have a good message. I would rate the book 2 out of 4 stars because there is scope for it to be written better. Also, it needs to be professionally edited to make the read smoother. I would not recommend this book to younger readers since they are quite impressionable and some parts of the book aren't very uplifting.
