The 11.05 Murders by Brian O’Hare is one of the many Inspector Sheehan Mystery novels and truly an enjoyable read. Brilliant, captivating and well-written with passion and experience. It also brings to light the problems a lot of people face today.
Sergeant Denise Steward is a bright female detective who suffered verbal and physical abuse from the sexist males in her previous district. After winning a trial against a few rotten cops, she is promoted and transferred to Inspector Sheehan’s district where she has to adapt to praise and comments from her male teammates. She also learns that though she is a female they have her back and will help her every step of the way. Her first case gives her a chance to work beside Sheehan, handsome Detective Allen, very attractive but strange lawyer, Turner, and the rest of the crew. It is also their first chilling case together. A man, brutally murdered, is linked to an unsolved case that happened 12 years ago along with two other men who are now targets for the killer. It becomes a race against time trying to solved two linked cases and saving the suspects before it is too late and the case goes cold. With other cases opening with no true leads it becomes difficult as minutes tick by. To make it worst Stewart is being followed and Allen realizes that her stalker doesn’t want him around and shows it in the most unpleasant ways. She also receives unexpected phone calls from a mysterious but informative source who leads her deeper into the case. Not to mention rats in the district leaking information. With twist and turns the squad has their hands full and tied. Sheehan struggles with himself. He knows he sees the link but can’t fit everything together to see the picture, but another look made everything fit into place.
I give this outstanding mystery a 4 out of 4. Full of suspense and hidden secrets, it was a pleasure to read. Brian O’Hare put a lot of heart into his written creation and surely he put the same passion into the rest of the Inspector Sheehan Mystery series. Within this book are real life problems people fight today; sexism and stalkers. I personally applaud him and the amazing authors for reminding us of the other crimes not commonly talked about but is happening everyday.
I enjoyed every bit of it and did not find flaws in grammar or structure. The only dislike is the story ended. Fortunately our author cared enough to write more about Sheehan and his wits and eye for puzzles. It was hard to put down and even harder for me to not try to solve the mystery ahead of the book though at the end I saw how wrong I was when I tried to pin point the killer.
Embrace this book and get lost in the series. Brian O’Hare’s work is genius and experienced. I loved it and would wish to indulge myself in his art.
