I want to say that I was quite shocked when I first opened this book. There was an instruction manual on how to read it! Nervously I read through it, and I was glad I did. The way the author explains how he differentiates through the settings allowed me to keep on track throughout the entire story.
Damon has spent all of his long life preparing for the end. He has destroyed countless lives and worlds creating this exact moment. The first seal has been broken. The beginning of the end has started. Will Damon use his powers for the greater good of humanity or will life as everyone knows come to an end?
This book has a very complex storyline. It jumps between various times and locations. One paragraph takes place on Earth in modern time and the next one takes place on a distant planet during what can only be described as medieval times. The author, Charles W. McDonald Jr., does a great job at explaining how the different times and location are separated at the beginning of the book. He also does a fantastic job at keeping all the characters included throughout the book.
Armageddon. This word says it all and ultimately sets the tone for A Kingdom Forgotten. The underlying theme of this book is good versus evil. Armies face each other with weapons form various times while their leaders use the same powers. A battle that spans time and space is a sobering one. The battles and tone of this book gives it a very dystopian feel.
McDonald Jr. does a great job at describing the characters. Everything in the novel is described down to the smallest detail which adds to the greatness of this book. The details he uses gives each person a depth rarely seen in writing. This allows the reader to be transported into the story from the very start and makes it impossible to put A Kingdom Forgotten down.
I give A Kingdom Forgotten by Charles W. McDonald Jr. 4 out of 4 stars. The complex storyline paired with the depth of the characters unite to form a superior novel. There were no noticeable grammatical or spelling errors. While the thought of jumping to different locations and times seems overwhelming, the author does an expert job at informing the reader of the changing settings. This book did end on a cliffhanger, but the way it ended will have the reader wanting more. While I do not believe this book to be acceptable for the younger readers due to some content and the complexity of the storyline, I will not hesitate to recommend this book to anyone whether or not they are a fan of science fiction.
