The book’s setting is located majority in the country of Iran with a focus on the long-lasting battle between the Jews of Israel and the Islamic Nations. It places a great fear that many nations face to this day, a nuclearized Middle East, right amid a dangerous love affair. The book is told through the two main characters’ perspectives; Layla Wallace and Cyrus Hassani. The book starts out with Cyrus overseeing the safe transport of dangerous nuclear technology right into the hands of Iran’s secretive intel organization, Oghab2. Starting out you learn that he is a very dangerous, intelligent, and powerful Iran born agent. Layla, on the other hand, is the only child of a well-known nuclear physicist who is a honor student at Harvard University. With her as a Jew and her boyfriend Saudi Arabian royalty, she is desperately worried that his parents won’t accept their relationship. This, however, becomes the least of her worries when she finds herself kidnapped with her boyfriend during her vacation in Dubai.

When she finds herself in her worst nightmare alone in a foreign prison with no rights, no protection, and feeling abandoned suddenly comes in the dark dangerous superhero, Cyrus. Cyrus at first under the orders of the deputy director of Oghab2 to rescue then seduce the girl to get her to spill state secrets he feels she carries is suddenly rerouted. He is caught off guard by first her beauty and innocence and immediately forms a soft spot for her. That is, until, the Mossad contact him and he is ordered to blow years of cover to get this unsuspecting Harvard student who claims ignorance to why she’s important out of the country and into Israel… and if he fails to do so then he must kill her. His soft spot hardens as she now is the only reason for the end of his current way of life and the end of his safety.

They find themselves on a dangerous seemingly impossible mission of escaping Iran with every avenue closing on them and barely any hope of success. Layla fights to learn more about her protector and who he is and why she finds herself amidst an international nuclear battle. While Cyrus, fights his every growing attraction to the fiery-headed American Jew. He knows he can’t afford an emotional attachment to her because his order to possibly kill her. Can he really do it? Why is she so important to the Iran secretive intel operation? Is their attraction to one another real, or is it just a result of circumstances creating a false sense of connection?

I found this book a compelling page-turner. The political issues shown in the book, which are very real and possible, intensive the suspense that much more. Escape by Belle Ami is fictional romantic thriller full of lust, love, and danger. The intense life and death scenes make the detailed erotic scenes that much more powerful. If you like your romances with a bit more detail and breath-taking risk-seeking romantic encounters, then this is the book for you!

As the book continues you learn so much more about Cyrus and his hardened past that you can’t help but feel for him and root for him to win! Cyrus was the most intriguing character in my eyes with all the depth his character had, I felt I knew him well. Layla’s character was most certainly a likeable one though I should admit at times a little cliché. I love how the author achieved having the two characters who came from drastically different worlds share such unsuspecting similarities. The supporting roles in this book do a great job of helping the reader get a full view the main characters’ world and who they are.

The sequence of events seemed realistic along with the characters’ emotions and feelings. I loved the small elements in the book that referenced real-life scenarios that gave a more immersed feeling to the book. I found parts of the book rather predictable but overall the book kept me wondering if they were going to escape as the title suggests. The end of the book, at parts, had me fearful for the couple and I found I couldn’t stop reading because I desperately needed to know if things would change. The only thing that concerns me is the book didn’t seem to leave room for any more in the series though it states it is only book one.

I would rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars. I would absolutely recommend this book to others to read. It had all the elements a romantic thriller wants and needs. I felt compelled to read the book without pause until I was done. This book is action-packed, romance seeking, realistic feeling, complete read. I look forward to reading more in the series!
