Raven's Peak by Lincoln Cole
Raven's Peak by Lincoln Cole, should be classified as a paranormal thriller. The main character Abigail Dressler is a hunter, who works for the Order, and is given tasks to rid the world of evil. Abigail is sent to Phoenix, on a mission to observe, report, and then eliminate, a demon. On her mission she rescues the son of Aram Malhorta one of the Orders high ranking and respected council members. Haatim Arison is that son, Abigail thwarts the demons plans, saving Haatim from a horrible fate.
Together, Abigail and Haatim travel to Ravens Peak. Where unusual activity has been reported in the secluded little Smokey Mountain, Tennessee town. At least that's what her boss, Frieda Gotlieb, told her about her assignment. When they arrive Abigail realizes that she has been to this town before. She try's to send Haatim to safety, but his faith keeps him bound to Abigail's side. In the end they both must face a demon of unspeakable evil as well as their past.
I ran across a few typos, so I must rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. At first I thought Raven's Peak would turn into one of the novels, where religion would eventually take a front row seat. I was pleasantly surprised that it focused more on the characters tasks and trials. I simply love anything paranormal or supernatural and thoroughly enjoyed the story line in this novel. The author clearly did some form of research, trying to set the stage when it came to naming the demons. Although some of the descriptions could have been more detailed about each demons characteristics. In turn I highly recommend that you sit down and give this one a read.
This book is the first in the World on Fire, trilogy. Which, I'm extremely happy about, since the ending left you with a cliff hanger. Normally I read stand alone books and they still leave me with questions about the characters. At least with this one you have the opportunity to expand the story line and the characters. I must say that this book was terribly hard to put down after about three chapters, a very gripping story. And I will admit that this story got my blood pumping a few times as well, with the action packed fighting.
I wish the story teller would have described the persons themselves better. More descriptions on the appearances and demeanors. He mention numerous characters that were described in basic manners, especially with Haatim and his family. Overall I was pleasantly pleased with the story. I will definitely be reading the next two books in this trilogy.
