A collection of poems called, The Immigrants Lament by Mois Benarroch. The author, Mois Benarroch has authored other poetry works and the novel Lucena. This particular collection was published by Moben Publishers.

The book is a collection of about 53 poems ranging from short 6 liners to long 3 page poems all with a beautiful message of the struggles we all somehow face today, Starting with the struggle of an immigrant who just never belongs all the way to feelings of children, lost loves and life in general.

The book is worth a read and is definitely one you want featured in your bookshelf so you can keep going back to it to read through some of the poems. As is usual with poetry the understanding depends solely on the reader but all poems will definitely tug at one’s heartstring. A couple of the poems are somewhat depressing and expresses a lack of hope but all in all presents what I see as the reality of life.

As a reader I particularly enjoyed the humour displayed in some of the poems and the way I could vividly picture the author’s words coming to life. What was disappointing was the lack of punctuation in some poems leading to confusion and having to re-read the entirety of the poem to look for meaning.

I give the book 3 out of 4 stars because while I feel it could deserve a 4 all the poems will not be of interest to all readers of poetry but the content is still good in that it deserves better than a 2. This book would appeal to anyone who is willing to look deep within themselves because the issues portrayed , as mentioned earlier, are issues that we face daily but sometimes avoid facing. It would appeal to those willing to consider the loneliness of life, the power of our egos and self-love or the ultimate lack of it. It would appeal to those who know what not belonging to a particular country, person, place or community means. It would not appeal to anyone looking for a light read.

The editing was basically well done but a few grammatical and spelling errors were noted. All were simple mistakes and did not really change the meaning of the poems.

All in all this book collection of poems is a must have for all poetry lovers and will educate all readers on a whole lot of worldly issues and generate a lot of self reflection and thoughts.
