First, I will go ahead and give my rating of this book. I am giving this book a rating of 2 out of 4. While I feel the story line itself was good, I can't give it higher as that the flow of the book/story is not the best, in my opinion.

This story is about a female demon hunter and a guy who has family secrets he doesn't know about, yet. She is forced to keep an eye on him, and protect him due to this legacy. They work together to try and save the town of Raven's Peak from evil forces taking afloat. The people in this town start going crazy due to an ancient demon reeking chaos by starting in a possessed young boy's body. The two main characters, (Haatim and Abigail,) must risk their lives to save this town and humanity itself.

As I stated, the story line is strong, however, there are points in the book, I feel run rather too long, like a slow episode of The Walking Dead, you are just waiting to the end (of the chapter) for something to actually happen. I am mainly referencing the part where the two are chasing the demon through the city. While the author is amazing at giving vivid details to really let you envision what it happening, I feel getting every jump, run, climb, running out of breath, etc, in the chasing scene is too drawn out. I won't lie, I skipped 3-4 pages once I hit page 2 of the chasing sequence because I was bored. Even skipping though, I thought it would have been over, but nope, Abigail was still chasing the demon with Haatim trying to keep up. It's like fast forwarding commercials on your DVR, you think they are done, but nope, still going. Once that part was over, I was able to keep my attention on the book.

I will say that I am a fan of both female and male heroes in books, so to have both in this story was nice. While Abigail is already a strong character from the jump, Haatim, you realize, further into reading, that he isn't just a blogger, trying to figure out what he wants to do with his life. He in fact, is a part of a family legacy that he he is getting an eye opener of, seeing that he more than just a post-grad and his character gets stronger as the book goes along.

Going back to Abigail, she was sent to this town by a higher Hunter, Frieda, and The Council, the heads of demon/paranormal hunters, to investigate why the town is going mad. Now, they have a close eye on her because she was recently possessed herself and losing her mentor, so she has to prove she is strong enough to continue her work as a hunter. While there to investigate, is when she meets Haatim, and finds he is the son of a Council member. She is then forces to keep him safe.

The story, however, end abruptly, just like again, an episode of my favorite show. It just ends. a To Be Continued end. Where you have to wait until October to find out what happens to the people you just got to know. While, I can see the pros in this, one being that the author just sold his second book in this series, because, duh, you HAVE to know what happens next! The cons, however, being, while it is a To Be Continued ending, what happens when the station decides to not renew the series? Guess what, you never know what is going to happen now, just like another show I grew fond of, Aquarius. It just ends. No more series. No idea what was to happen with such an abrupt and cliffhanging ending.

I do hope this author continues this series as I would be interested in finding out what happens to next to our duo. However, please, Mr. Cole, no more 5 page chase scenes!
