The path to finding true love is never an easy one. In Hello, My Love by Evy Journey, the first in a series of 3 romance novels about women striving to find their true love, Elise Halverson and Greg Thrope attempt to navigate the rocky path in order for them to live out a happy life together. When the bad boy bachelor businessman meets and falls in love with the new and upcoming law student, they both discover the dangers that come along with pursuing the ones they love. If you are looking for an easy romance read this is the book for you, but if you are looking for something with a little bit more substance and unpredictable mysteries then you might want to look elsewhere.

Initially, this book seemed like it was going to be a hit in my eyes. It was a romance book that claimed to have a mysterious plot line that challenged that characters and tested their love and stated to follow in the same style as Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. I didn’t find that these two stories were similar in the least bit. The only aspect that I could find to be similar were the same archetype that the two lovers were enemies at the beginning before they fall in love. The biggest disappointment to me was that the plot was lacking in any form of drama or mystery. All of the obstacles that were placed in either Elise, Greg or their path as a couple seemed to hold little importance. The issues would be introduced, addressed and dealt with in the span of one chapter. They didn’t evolve into something that really tested their relationship and didn’t add anything to the plot.

The overall plot of the story was random and seemed messy. The beginning starts out with a time lapse from two years ago to set up the background of Elise and Greg’s relationship, which I found to be important and helpful to set up the story. After the beginning time jump, the novel moves chronologically. Another narrative choice that added to the confusion of the story was the changing narrative points of view. Most chapters in the chapter index are titled with a character’s name. Usually this means that the chapter is in that one characters view, but in this novel the narrator jumps around a little in some chapters and seems to bring on some confusion at times.

Journey is great with dialogue between characters but it’s the description of events that was lacking. No major event that any of the main characters faced was the biggest problem for me. I found myself being very bored with the story. There was nothing suspenseful about this story that drew me into the story as a reader. I found myself reading through it quickly to find some sort of problem and climax to an overall flat storyline.

I would have to rate this book 2 out of 4 stars because it is written well and delivers a story that can be entertaining, but falls short of being something that I would want to recommend as a great novel. This book overall was a bit of a letdown for me. It did not live up to what it claimed it was, and the conclusion to the story was disappointing and a major let down to the plot in general. While this book would appeal to all readers, but the ones that might find it most interesting are the ones that are simply looking for a fun, cheesy read. There isn't a ton of content that allows on to dive deeper in an intellectual level. I would recommend this book to anyone that is looking for an easy read, who like romance stories that bring two unlikely people together, and someone who wants a quick read.
