The Bonging by Imogen Keeper is a Science fiction romance novel that focuses on the relationship between Nissa, Princess of Triannon and Tam, a space captain. Forced to flee the planet before becoming enslaved by the off-worlders, Nissa along with a selection of 99 primarily female members of her planet, escape inside pods into space in the hopes of help. After being lost and frozen in space for hundreds of years, Nissa’s pod is discovered by Tam. Tam encounters her pod floating through space while returning from a training mission for the Tribe Argentus.

After approval from Base and examining the pod for signs of Vestige, the main enemy of Tribe Argentus, Tam collected the Pod. Upon rescuing her pod Tam must save her from the effects of being frozen in space for so long. Once cured of her blue-tinge they fight together with the Tribe counsel for the rescue of her planet's remaining pods. Along the way they struggle with the circumstances and addiction of their relationship and with the demands of Nissa to become queen. This book does contain graphic sexual language and scenes.

I Like that the characters in this story were well written in descriptions as well as personalities, allowing the characters to be relatable. The main characters opposite personalities cause you to root harder for Nissa and Tam’s relationship. The story’s conflicts are fairly and realistically argued from all points of view. This allows the reader to fall into the story as if they are in the story. I also enjoyed that the secondary characters were focused on enough to further develop the story but not so much that they take away from the main characters and plot.

I felt the conflict in their relationship relating to their difference in stations, Nissa being a princess and Tam being a lowly soldier, was less than original. This weak theme in the story allowed for a few events to become predictable. I also felt that the sexual language used in many of the romantic scenes were unnecessarily graphic and caused the relationship to seem almost entirely mechanical.

I give this book 3 out of 4 stars. Overall, I felt this was a well written adventure. The Bonding held my attention throughout my reading of it. Except for the few points I made earlier this was a great book. A book that I will recommend to other readers.
