Hello, My Love by Evy Journey is a contemporary romance fiction book. The story follows a career-minded woman, Elise Halverson, who develops a romantic relationship with the business tycoon and playboy, Greg Thorpe. Avid readers of Jane Austen’s novels may identify with this story for being the modern-day pastiche of Pride and Prejudice.

Elise Halverson is an independent woman who remains wary about trusting other men, although she has a tight-knit relationship with her family. She gets to know Greg Thorpe, who becomes good friends with Elise’s father during the course of their business consultations. He is occasionally invited to dinner at her parents’ home. Elise and Greg begin to engage in conversations that lead to insightful arguments, developing a friendship that becomes something more as the days continue to stretch.

The core of the conflict lies on Greg’s fiancée, Lori Williams. As he is about to be married, the relationship between Greg and Elise begin to stagger. Elise also has her own doubts in-between, considering Greg’s reputation as a playboy. Adding salt to injury will be the spiteful edge to Lori’s personality, putting both lovers to the test.

What I liked most about the book was how well-developed the characters were. Each of them had their moments of happiness and downfalls that made me relate to them at a certain level. At the same time, I appreciated the way they had to overcome their obstacles, which could be the moral point for readers. The conversations between characters were emotionally-driven and there was a logical pace in terms of the story’s events.

Perhaps a weak point that I found in the novel was its early conclusion. There was a sudden turn during the two-year transition. The threats, twists, and all other conflicts could have taken place preceding the reunion between the characters. However, this detail did not necessarily discourage me from reading until the end. The novel was a good read and a simple love story that could make romantic hearts melt.

There were several minor slips detected in the novel, such as misplaced or missing punctuations. Fortunately, they were too few to be considered distracting to readers. I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. The story contained a decent amount of thrill and excitement that made me want more, but I was thinking that some of the problems were solved too soon. Overall, however, I enjoyed the entirety of the novel and this is a definite appeal to romance readers. It is not only about the warm, heartfelt moments between the characters. The story also teaches how to endure with your loved ones in spite of the odds in life.
