A serial killer is on the loose in Belfast. He kills on Tuesday nights at exactly 11:05 pm. Even when the police finally figure out what is going on and who the next victim will be, the wily killer strikes again and kills his target. Can Detective Chief Inspector James Sheehan, his newly assigned Detective Sargent Denise Stewart, and their team catch the culprit before he murders again?

The 11:05 Murders is Volume 2 in the Inspector Sheehan Mystery Series by Brian O’Hare. A crime/suspense thriller, the book has approximately 375 pages and is available as an e-book from Amazon for $2.50.

Following a promotion from a uniformed officer to a plainclothes detective, this serial killer case is Detective Sargent Denise Stewart’s first case in her new position. And what a case it is! A killer that kills at exactly 11:05 pm three Tuesday nights running, someone stalking the new detective, repeated attempts on the life of another detective on the team, a mob boss, and an assault on a woman 12 years earlier on a college campus…what do they all have in common, if anything?

As the team looks for answers in piles of diverse information, the picture starts coming together slowly. But when a member of the team goes missing, Chief Detective Inspector Sheehan and the rest of the team have to scramble to put the final pieces together before their fellow officer is killed.

I loved the author’s description and development of the characters in this book! Each character is given a back story with enough information to get a good feeling for his or her personality. The thoughts and actions of the characters are expressed beautifully. I feel like I got to know all of the characters well. Even though this is the second book in a series, it can definitely be read as a stand-alone novel.

The story had many elements to it and I thought the author handled all of those moving pieces skillfully. There was never a time I was confused or unsure of what was happening in the story line. I couldn’t imagine how it was all going to fit together in the end, but the author pulled it together in a fascinating way. I was on the edge of my seat for the whole story and thought it had a satisfying ending.

If there was anything I didn’t like about the book it was that Denise’s character was extremely prickly when dealing with some of the male detectives on the team. There was backstory here from her previous position, so it was easy to understand. But what I thought was a little unrealistic was her complete turnaround at the end.

I give The 11:05 Murders a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. The book was well written and kept my attention riveted to the page until the very end. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes crime or suspense novels with just a teeny bit of romance thrown in for good measure.
