Book Blueprint by Jacqui Pretty is a how to guide aimed towards entrepreneurs who desire to take their business to the next level by publishing a book. The Book Blueprint covers how to write different types of books such as ‘the how-to’ book, the memoir, the interview book, the thought leadership book, and the list book. Pretty clearly outlines each step needed to write a successful book.

Jacqui Pretty is the founder and head editor of Grammar Factory. This is a writing company that also does editing and coaching to help entrepreneurs write awesome books. Although the target audience is entrepreneurs, I believe that anyone who is interested in writing a book would find Pretty’s work appealing. There are a number of interactive sections that offer questions and exercises to stimulate writers to produce their best work.

Despite the usefulness of this book, I have decided to give it a 2 out of 4 stars rating. As thorough as the content in Book Blueprint is, there are glaring errors in the copy of the book I received. There are many disturbing instances where the second l is missing in words with two consecutive ls. This is especially distasteful in the following sentence, ‘This book has been professional y edited and proofread.’ Also, sentences are cut in half in favor of line breaks and what seem to be page numbers appear in the middle of the page between poorly formatted footnotes and the name Jacqui Pretty shows up randomly in the middle of many of the pages. Moreover, there are more than a few spelling errors.

Another major issue that I had with this book was the fact that the author contradicted her disclaimer. According to the disclaimer Book Blueprint ‘does not represent professional advice.’ However, Pretty obviously advertises this book using her status as the founder and head editor of Grammar factory. She even promises readers that they can get their money back if they are not satisfied!

In conclusion, Book Blueprint is an easy to use guide on writing a book. The author does a great job simplifying the daunting task of taking an idea and expanding it into a great work of literary art. Unfortunately, my copy of the book was obviously not professionally edited and proofread as it claims to have been. However, I would still recommend this work to anyone who is interested in writing a book.

Basing on your review, the book looks like a contradiction waiting to be unraveled. It's a pain to have books that claim things, which becomes a disappointment in the end. Thanks for the review, Jaime Lync.

I agree with you on the disclaimer. The author contradicts it. I read this book and the copy i downloaded must have been different as it was well edited. Thank you for sharing your understanding of it.

Oh my! I love the sentence about how the book has been professional y edited. :) That's too funny. I guess I'll skip this one. Thanks for the review.
