Solaris Seethes is a science fiction novel about a young woman, named Rynah who must search through space for several crystals to save her planet.

The novel starts with Rynah's fiance betraying her, (that was quite shocking) by stealing the crystal that held together their planet. Rynah,of course feels hurt and betrayed by what has happened, but she must move forward. She barely escapes the destruction of her planet with the help of the unexpected Solaris. Rynah must team up together with four unlikely heroes, namely, Solon the philosopher, Brie the lover, Alfric the Viking Warrior, and Tom the inventor, to save the Lanyran people. Finding the crystals will not be easy, as there are fakes and Klanor, her ex-fiance, is also looking for the others as well.

What I enjoyed most about the novel was the team the author put together. The team consisted of six unique personalities that form a less than perfect dynamic for the task at hand. There are numerous differences between them including the type of species, culture, gender, race, etc. But as the team faces obstacles and challenges along the way over and over again, we see each character learning to accept each other’s differences. In consequence, they themselves grow and their friendship strengthens.

Throughout the novel, as I've stated we also see the personal growth of each individual. In this first novel of the saga, the author focused most on Rynah and Brie. Rynah learns more about her more compassionate side, while Brie had overcome many of her fears. Aside from that, we also see snippets into the inner world of the Viking warrior Alfric. Perhaps, in the succeeding books, we would see the other characters face their own challenges and witness their development through it.

Another aspect of the novel that I particularly liked was the references to other legends and history. it was actually quite fun, it felt like i was in on a secret. Although, the references were explained eventually.

On the other hand, I didn't like this novel in the beginning, during the first quarter of it. Especially, the part where the four were taken from their homes and how little they seemed to care about where they were. All of the characters barely reacted to seeing Rynah, as if seeing an alien is a normal occurrence.

The romance part was also a bit disappointing, I was kind of hoping that Rynah would find another love interest besides her back-stabbing ex-fiance Klanor, then again there are still a few books left in the saga so hope is not lost.

All in all, I rate this book, a 3 out of 4 stars since there were times that I was really engrossed in the book but a bit boring as well other times, but it was still fun.
