H M Irwing's Marrying a Playboy Billionaire is a sensual romance novel. It follows the story of Aria Longbottom and Justin Kay. It all starts when Aria gets dumped by her then boyfriend, Dave, for her very own cousin, Linda. Heartbroken at a masked party, Aria finds herself the perfect rebound, Justin Kay. The two indulge in a heated night together. Justin wakes up the next morning alone. After five years apart, our protagonists reunite in what was supposed to be a business meeting. From then onwards, Aria finds herself being compelled to everything consisting of Justin Kay and Justin Kay only. The two are inseparable from the start and become even more so as the story progresses.
Marrying a playboy billionaire is a romantic novel which heavily outlines the attachments that come with having sex. It deals with the physical intimacy of having sex and being sexually attracted to someone. It focuses on how it feels like to want someone so much that it physically hurts not being near them. The characters have similar characteristics as compared to those of the modern times. The female is inferior about her physique and is somewhat not perfect whereas the male is completely perfect in every way except for showing his actual emotions. Unlike other novels, the female does not provoke the male to show his emotions, infact, he learns to show them himself over time.
This book was edited carefully and it was hard for me to find any errors except for the excessive use of italic print. It may not exactly be an error but it felt unnecessary at times. There were many dialogues which didn’t need any emphasis but words were still Italicized. On the other hand, H M Irwing's writing was phenomenal. The setting and description was done in an excellent way. H M Irwing uses a wide variety of captivating words and phrases. The plot, although, was very dry and a bit clichè in my opinion.
The best part about the book was the writing. Aria’s witty remarks for all the strange things happening to her were amusing to read. The dialogue, on the other hand, was my least favourite part. First of all, there wasn't much dialogue to begin with. Aria and Justin exchanged more kisses than they did words. Whenever they would talk, it would sound a bit squirmish. Apart from the dialogue being uninteresting, it was also a tad unrealistic. The use of cuss words were a bit too much in my opinion. There were many times when there was no need for swearing but it was still done.
One of the things I should have enjoyed but didn’t were the sex scenes. They were intimate for sure, but the thing is, there were too many of them. I get that it is a romance novel and so there are bound to be intimate scenes but, why so many? While reading, there was a point where I felt like they were just being forced. The lack of dialogue and the excessive sexual tension between the characters made me feel as if their entire relationship was just built on sex. Even after their declaration of love for one another, it still felt as if they were in love with each other’s bodies and not souls. There were many times when Justin was downright rude to Aria for no reason at all and what did Aria do about it? Nothing. She went along with it just like she went along with everything that concerned him. It felt as though they were not in love with each other but rather just obsessed with each other.
The plot in itself was slightly senseless. It took them five whole years to reunite even though Aria worked twenty minutes away from where Justin lived. The main reason why they had to get married was because otherwise, Justin would have to forfeit his father’s inheritance. It was his late father’s wish that Justin should be married till thirty years of age. Let me emphasise that it was his father's wish and not a blood aoth. It didn’t seen like a good enough reason for Aria to be convinced but she was nodding all along the way. Why? I understand that she was compelled by his good looks but even the weakest of humans have restraint. Why didn’t she once think about what she was doing? Even if they did like each other, marriage on its own is a much bigger declaration than it was portrayed to be.
I rate his this book 1 out of 4 stars I think this book is great for those who just want to have a sensual read. For those who like a good story along with real emotional attachments, I would not recommend this book. The writing has a lot of potential but sadly, the plot does not.
