‘Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster.’
Months after having been possessed by a demon, Abigail (a hunter of demon-kind) sets out to find a way to bring her mentor back from the jaws of hell. Acquiring a would-be accomplice, Haatim, the pair set out to Raven’s Peak, where evil awaits.
I loved the cover art for this book and found the layout to be elegant, which really drew me in. I liked the way in which the author paints such a vivid picture with their use of language, as well as the way they represented men during times of crisis. It was refreshing to read a book where the male characters are shown expressing the build-up of their emotions, instead of hiding them away. Although deemed as a sign of weakness in general society, I see a lot of strength in a man that is able to cry in the presence of others.
What I liked most, above all else, was the way in which the relationship between Abigail and Haatim develops. There is a great level of trust between them from their first meeting and I could sense that they would have each-other’s backs through thick and thin.
There wasn’t much that I disliked about the novel, save for the way Abigail is treated after having been possessed six months prior to the main part of the story. Since an individual cannot control themselves when possessed, I couldn’t understand why so many people had it in for her character.
I would rate Raven’s Peak as 3 out of 4 stars. While its fast pace hooked me and its characters had me emotionally invested, I couldn’t help but feel that there was something missing that would have lent more impact to certain scenes. Raven’s Peak made for an intense and fulfilling read that I could see fellow fans of fantasy enjoying.
I include below a list of typos/errors I found whilst reading:
Mobi File- The bits in bold need to be altered or removed.
Location 713- ‘want to talk about it with her.’
Location 1381- ‘document he’d been writing mention of her more.’
Location 2787- ‘Things like this should be impossible keep hidden.’ (Missing ‘to’.)
Location 4336- ‘Picked one of them men...’
Location 4742- ‘Big, but no match her the poison.’ (Replace with ‘for?’)

I agree with you that the scenes are vivid. I think that the story can be converted into a successful film.
