From Drift to Shift is a motivational self-help book that’ll guide readers in pursuing their true purpose in life, whether it be on a professional or personal level. Author and Life Coach Jody B. Miller helps to remind us that despite many challenges and setbacks through a person’s journey, anyone could achieve success and a life of meaning. She helps us to realize when it’s time to conjure up the courage to make that pivotal change, to “shift.”

For anyone who’s curious about the title’s meaning, “drift” refers to the aimlessness of a person, when an individual goes through the same unfulfilling routine, when they trap themselves with whatever problem is hindering them from true happiness. “Shift” is when a person decides that it’s time to live a meaningful existence.

In the chapters, you’ll hear stories from people from different places and different backgrounds, who’ll all talk about their past tragedies and struggles through life. These are real individuals, by the way, not fictional scenarios. You’ll meet people who were raised through unfortunate circumstances, experienced life-changing accidents, and suffered from life-threatening ailments. Basically, people who’ve dealt with failure, loss, and depression. This book will take you through their journeys, how these individuals had overcome adversity, and how they made bold steps toward change to improve their lives.

I’ve read many self-help books and many motivational books by various authors. They’ve all said the same things about staying positive, being strong, and taking control of your life. I know that some of these authors truly want to help others, but some just want to make easy money through the “think positive” craze. From Drift to Shift felt different to me. Through the various stories and experiences shared in this book, I started to feel that Jody B. Miller was genuine, and that she did care about the reader. How did I know this author cared? Well, simply because I enjoyed this book. I found the personal stories in this to be unique, fascinating, and relatable. I’m sure plenty of time and research was put in to create this. Even the end of the book, the appendix, notes, and so forth, had some useful and interesting information. Sometimes a reader can just feel a writer’s passion.

I give From Drift to Shift 4 out of 4 stars. I would recommend this to anyone, as I know that everyone faces hardships and that all people fear making a change in life. Change is a scary thing, but this book will tell you why you shouldn’t be afraid of it. This book will remind us all that life is too short to not pursue happiness. After I finished reading this, I did feel better about a lot of things, and I realized that I’m grateful for so much.

You are right. Change IS scary. Sounds like this is full of inspiration, though. Thanks for the review.
