I am not sure where to begin with this book, titled Marrying a Playboy Billionaire by H.M Irwing. I know the romance genre has been exhausted and, there are fewer storylines to pursue when it comes to writing romance, but this is absolutely unacceptable. There is absolutely no content to summarize for this novel. If I took out all the sexual scenes; which were at an average of one every three pages; and if I took out all the embellished amount of adjectives used in describing the littlest of actions, I don’t think there would be enough content left to hold this book together.

This book was written from Aria’s point of view; who is one of the main protagonist as it were. H.M Irwing writes in the first person and hence there are a lot of ‘I’ and ‘My’ that tire out the reader; and end up making you feel as if you were reading someone’s personal journal. There is no variation in her sentence structures, which brings a monotonous feeling in the reading.

In summary, Aria Longbottom meets Justin Kay after five years. The last time they were together, they had sex; Aria so she could get over her heartbreak from being dumped by Dale, her fiancé at the time; and Justin as a drunken mishap. However, five years later Justin wants more but Aria has some reservations; self-image issues contribute to her lack of confidence in herself, and hence she questions Justin’s interest in her. In the end Aria will have to make a choice to overcome her reservation, does she wish to pursue the avenue Justin wants to lead them on?

There are some small hints on body image issues with Arya; she questions a lot of the feelings and actions of the people around her, especially at work and in her relationship with Justin because of this. I would have loved to see the author explore this avenue of thoughts; to give the book more content as well as to address the current redefined standards on body image. There isn’t much of a history between the protagonists, apart from the drunken sex they had years ago. It would have been nice if the author could have also invested more in the background story between Aria and Justin.

The only redeemable quality about this book is the author’s ability to string so many adjectives together and still avoid grammatical errors. There were very few editorial errors that I noticed, which made it bearable to read. This book had so much potential to be explored, some being: It’s environmental setting, which is Australia, there could have been more invested in exploring this remote colorful land; also Justin’s financial status, we see little evidence of a lavish lifestyle that would support the Author’s title of ‘Billionaire’. Also we don’t get an in depth perception of Aria’s thoughts in anything else except for Justin Kay; most of her thoughts are directed or indirectly connected to Justin Kay: His opinion on her losing her job, his view on her body, how he views her family. It would have been great to have seen something more develop from her character, maybe a gradual dispersion of her body image issues; or a buildup of her confidence, so she could stand up for herself.

I rate this book 1 out of 4 stars, and this is mainly because of my problem with the lack of content; as well as the fact that I had trouble forcing myself to complete reading the book. I had to find a palate cleanser book in the middle of reading this book so as to help me continue reading it. I wouldn’t recommend it to any romance lover, because it will just be a big disappointment. I also wouldn’t recommend to ages below 18 years for it has a lot of sexual scenes.
