WHO TOLD YOU THAT YOU WE’RE NAKED?
A refreshing Examination of the Garden of Eden.
By William E Combs.
This is a nonfiction Christian book that greatly expounds the events of the Garden of Eden and their relevance in our times today. Just like the title, it’s a refreshing examination of the garden of Eden. It takes you into the story of creation, giving you a vivid picture of what transpired during those times. The introduction is quite interesting and captivating because the author opens it up with a personal story that led him to his interest in this particular topic.

The first two chapters of the book describe life in the garden of Eden. In these chapters, the story of the fall of man is told in an elaborative style. Chapter three and four examine how sin came into the whole picture. It also describes the life Adam and Eve had to experience after the garden of Eden. The subsequent chapters bring in topics like faith, walk with God and how all this is related to what happened in the garden. At the end of each chapter, you find study questions that get one to reflect on the topic they have just explored and how it relates to their life. It has ten chapters and the last bit of the book are end notes that are organized according to each chapter.

The first chapter takes you on an interesting journey of the garden of Eden. The writer has a unique way of describing the details of the garden that it captivates the reader and creates vivid images of what is being described. At least that’s how I felt reading through this chapter. The subsequent chapters follow through on different topics but with equally captivating story telling. The chapters are also full of bible scriptures relevant to the topics being discussed. The writer’s personal stories within the book make for easy understanding of the content. The study questions at the end of every chapter make it seem like a bible study guide with a focus on the garden of Eden.

I personally enjoyed reading this book although I feel like it mostly appeals to bible readers or Christians in general. The fact that it is based on a bible story and has a lot of scripture used, it might not appeal to persons not interested in the bible. As a Christian, I loved the last four chapters of the book because they gave insights on how to improve my walk with God and that is why for me this book will fall under a study guide. It was very helpful answering the study questions at the end of each chapter, this made me reflect on what I had just read and how it applied to my life.

The book has an organized and good flow of the topics discussed. I would rate this book 3 out of 4 because of its simplicity. The writer doesn’t use complex literature to put forward the message. I think it will be a great seller in the Christian community especially to bible scholars. It shades a new light on how we should look at the story of Adam and Eve.
