Book Blueprint is a non-fiction book by Jacqui Pretty that aims to teach entrepreneurs how to write bestselling books. Jacqui Pretty is the Founder and Head Editor of Grammar Factory: a writing, editing and coaching company that helps entrepreneurs to become bestselling authors. The author conceived the idea for the book during her editorial work. While editing the work of her clients, she observed the same erroneous issues in one book after another. She realized that the authors could have avoided these errors in the writing process by using proper planning. In her response, Jacqui developed a system that any entrepreneur could use to write a splendid book, regardless of their writing experience.
To begin with, Jacqui used the mind mapping method to dissect a potential book into four (4) components comprising of the right idea, the right structure, the right content and the right language. Within each component, Jacqui gave systems and structures for the potential author to use to develop outlines. This she mostly did in the form of questions that the potential author needs to answer. In the end, Jacqui guides the potential author through the development of a very detailed skeletal outline and consequently the writing of the book in a stress free manner.
Indeed, Jacqui was very passionate about the ability of entrepreneurs, who are very busy people, to write books about their area of expertise. She believed that writing a book makes an entrepreneur stand out in his or her field. It is her opinion that writing a book transforms an entrepreneur into an authority in their field, throws them into the limelight and increases their earning capacity. She was very emphatic that every entrepreneur should write a book in their field irrespective of the number of books already available in that area. This is because every entrepreneur has a unique style that draws a particular type of clients. Thus, a poorly written book is a bad selling point for the entrepreneur while an awesome book could propel the entrepreneur to the next and highest level.
Book Blueprint is a very instructive book and every reader will find it so. Unlike other books, Jacqui does not wait until the end of a chapter to present the assignments that the reader needs to tackle. She places assignments or activities that are relevant to a section in text-boxes just after the related section. Thus, Book Blueprint becomes a practical workbook for a potential writer who is ready to start writing.
Jacqui Pretty wrote Book Blueprint for entrepreneurs and I recommend it for every one of them. In reading through Book Blueprint however, I did not see a reason why anyone else who wants to write, whether an entrepreneur or not, could not use her book as a guide. Thus, I would recommend Book Blueprint for potential writers who are not entrepreneurs as well. Indeed even for people who have written and published books already, I would propose to them how easy it would be for them to use Book Blueprint as a guide for their next book.
In writing Blue Blueprint, Jacqui Pretty practiced what she preached. This did not only make her book relevant but also made it very enjoyable and I loved that about the book. What I enjoyed most was how she could use parts and sections of her own book to illustrate a lesson she was teaching. I found nothing to dislike about the book. My only regret after picking the book to read was that I was not an entrepreneur who has come to the point of selling myself through a book. However, I could see how easy it would be for me to write a book if I stick to the instructions given in Book Blueprint when am ready. For this reason, I rate Book Blueprint 4 out of 4 stars.
