Lemoncella Cocktail is a thrilling crime novel written by Rene Natan. She is a published author who professes storytelling to be her first love and it is quite evident in this action packed and adventure paced book.

Patrick Carter, a twenty five year old bartender with a dark past finds himself accidentally mixed up with men of the underworld when he played the role of a Good Samaritan by rescuing a fourteen year old teenager from drowning. Knowing his life might be in danger, he joins forces with the Canadian task force in a seemingly impossible mission to bring these criminals to book.

Rene Natan surely knows how to carry one along for this book has a nice story line. I loved her characters in this book and found them endearing especially five year old Justin. She captured the behaviour of a typical five year old quite well and an example of this is found in the part where Justin asks ‘’No bath tonight?’’. I couldn’t help but laugh because most children find evening baths bothersome. Her attention to detail is noticed even in the way she describes the behaviour of the household pets. I was also able to empathize with the antagonists because I came to understand how they ended up the way they were.

We learn from books and I learnt something about task force operations. Once an officer’s gun is taken out the holster, it means they are shooting to kill by aiming at the forehead and firing several times. This is different from what I had assumed through movies where the gun is just pointed at the criminal when they bring it out of their holster. The writer’s experience in the world of information technology world equally comes to play in this book.

Sadly, the excessive grammatical blunders take away the joy of enjoying this book. I knew there was trouble from the moment I detected grammatical errors and spellings even from the first page. There was even the case of a character’s name being mistakenly changed more than once. Lemoncella Cocktail needs a professional and thorough editing job because the errors are just too much to be forgivable especially for a published author. I also feel that the writer could have come up with another name title for this book which relates better with its storyline.

Overall, I rate this book 2 out of 4 stars and this is because I enjoyed the story but found the abundant errors distracting. For those of us who can forge on to read a book in spite of errors just like I did, feel free to tuck yourself in with this book.

Well, am glad you at least enjoyed the story. A book I read not only had serious grammatical problems, it also could not even present a complete story that one could follow from the beginning till the end. So I don't mind reading it even if it has errors. Thanks for the review.

I don't like to read the books that are not professionally edited. It ruins my focus and interest. I don't think I would read this book.
