I rate Who Told You That You Were Naked by William E. Combs 3 out of 4 stars. The book is interpreting the Adam and Eve story in the bible discussing the author’s perspective of the story. This book is suitable for Christian people who are interested in getting a deeper interpretation and unique perspective of the Adam and Eve story in the Bible. However, the book was very difficult to read due to the two things happening in the book which is the story and the interpretation.

I love that the author displayed detailed imagery through simple words in telling the story of Adam and Eve. The way The Author describes the images were very vivid and vibrant. A great example is in chapter one when he met the lamb that Adam named lively and the tragic story of how he came to meeting the lamb lively where lively mom was killed to save Adam’s life. I believe the whole entire story was simple enough for an 11 year old child to read.

On the other hand, the interpretation section where the author explained his analysis on the story was over exaggeration and it wasn’t necessary. I understand that the whole point of the book was for the author to explicate what he believe certain parts of the story mean by proving it with the scriptures but at the same time he devalued his work by the use of repetition.

The most highlighted feature that came out of the author’s interpretation was his unique perspective in that he emphasized how every decision Adam and Eve made had an effect on their lives whether it was bad or good. The one main thing that changed their lives drastically was tasting the fruit from the tree that God warned them not to eat from because it made them realize unnecessary things such as their nakedness which caused them to harm them self by wearing leaves that give them a rash among other things.

The book is a good book but what makes it difficult, is the story and the author’s interpretation combined because it is not uniform due to the way it was written. What would have made this book a better one, is if the author decided to either choose to write the story and leave the interpretation or vice-versa. Currently, the two together is not completely digestible.

I've been reading a lot about this book lately! It seems really interesting. It's unfortunate that you didn't find both the stories and the analysis to be complimentary with one another. Which would you prefer the book to have if there was only one? I've been getting the impression that the stories/imagery are the best parts of this book. Great review!
