Yesterday by Samyann is a romance that features Mark, a Chicago cop; Amanda, the woman who saves his life, and a clock that survived the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Its themes center around loss, reincarnation and copious amounts of drinking.

I absolutely loved this book. The story, the characters, and themes all blend together to form a beautiful love story about love, loss, and second chances.

After meeting when Amanda saves Mark from a train, they are both found in an antique shop where they bond over a beautiful grandfather clock from the 18th century. As they search for answers about this clock and their connection, the reader is transported back to the time of the Civil War, when the clock was first created. Both the past and present storylines contain a sassy cat that help our characters cope with their stressful lives. Both the past and present storylines will leave you crying and laughing at the characters and their interactions.

I only have 2 problems with this book. The first is the portrayal of the black slaves that are in the past storyline. It was almost like the author just decided to write what one would think a stereotypical black slave would look, talk, and act like instead of creating original characters. The second problem I had was with the various jumps in time that are not explained or justified immediately. I would be reading one passage and in the next passage I would discover that 2 weeks have past with no reason why. While I do not mind a time jump, I do think it needs to be noted immediately and or given a reason why we are jumping time.

There were several seemingly unimportant questions that were not answered that I would want to know more about. For example, how the sapphires were separated, and how the present characters were related to the past characters. I would also want to know what happened to the slaves after they left the storyline.

Overall, I rate this book 3 out of 4. I loved this book despite the few grammatical errors and writing style. I would go so far to say this would make a great made-for-TV movie or show.

"You are mine for all of time" seems to be a perfect quote to summarize this romance between the woman whose loss cripples her and the man whose determined to love her in all of his lives.
