Lincoln Cole's Ravens Peak was published by Lincoln Cole in 2015. It is the first part of a series with the theme world on fire and it is set in the USA. It is a fictional book that discusses demons, demon hunters, how demons possess people and how a demon hunter expel them from the bodies they possess using religious knowledge of the demons, the name of the demons, religious artifacts, prayers and the likes. It briefly hit on a form of unity of different religions in the sense that their different prayer styles are equally effective in expelling demons so no religion is relegated in the story, however, artifacts and vocabulary of a particular religion are a little more prominent.
The book tells the story of a young African-American woman who is an inexperienced demon hunter and trying to gain the trust of the council she works for and at the same time trying to find her adopted father how was taken by a demon. The council she works for is in charge of keeping watch on demons, demon activities, sanctioning their expulsion, training, reprimanding and ordering demon hunters. The book began by introducing 'the reverend' also known as Author a seasoned and renowned demon hunter, his morning routine, his current state, his previous reputation and the only family he had left. Then, went on to talk about Abigal, a young demon hunter on a mission to expel a demon which the council considers as a future treat when she met Hattim and rescued him from being possessed by the demon. Hattim was a young Indian man who's life was in shambles because he had recently lost his only sibling to cancer. He blamed his father for the death of his sister and left home despite the fact that he didn't have a job or money to sustain himself. Thereafter, Abigal was assigned another mission to go check out some happenings in Ravens Peak and she took Hattim along with her. When they got to Ravens Peak the town seemed fairly normal at first but then things began to unfold as there was a very dangerous demon taking over the town.
Ravens Peak is both entertaining and intriguing with the right amount of suspense. The book provides the reader with a proper amount of detail for a video-like imaginative experience. I enjoyed the flow of the book which began with a prologue and ended with an after although I almost missed the after because I thought the story ended at the last chapter.
I will give the book a rating of 4 out of 4 because I feel it was well written and professionally edited as I did not notice any typographical error. I also liked the modern setting of the book which gives a feel I can relate to despite the fact that it is a fictional book.
Ravens Peak appeals to me because I enjoy similar fictional work that discusses demons, demon hunters, and supernatural topics and I will recommend it to readers with similar interest.
