My trip to Adele is a fiction written by R. I. and A. I. Alyaseer who are siblings. The book is about three people living in different places at a particular time with different histories, pains and hopes, they all have something in common-love for Adele: Elais, a Moroccan who lives in Rome has Love as a memory that was not lived, he went in search of that love but never found it; Yaser, a Surgeon in Las Vegas whose relationship with his wife lost its sparkle - they embarked on a quest to revive that sparkle; Nadia a divorced mother in Amman, Jordan, who was in a struggle between absolute freedom from the clutches of her ex husband and the beckoning of motherhood.
I like how much the stories in the book related to reality, more often than not, the happiness and satisfaction we crave in life does not usually bare the face we expect them to. All three characters in this book either did not find what they were looking for or found it in another form.
The book is not a story of a single person or a group of persons with a common journey, each chapter holds a story of a person different from that of the preceding and succeeding chapters, I occasionally found it difficult continuing a particular story from a new chapter because the beginning lines of the new chapter did not give a clue of how the story ended in the preceding chapter, I had to sometimes go back to the ending of a particular story in its previous chapter to be able to continue reading the new chapter, and that is what I don’t like about the book.
I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars because it’s an interesting and good book to read, it is better than “fair” because not only are the stories in the book realistic, they are capable of bringing a reader back to the real life. Sometimes we get carried away by our aspirations, a book like this serves as a reminder that we might not always realize our dreams, and gets us prepared to accept whatever we are able to attain. On the other hand, I won’t feel completely honest if I rate it 5 star because as much as it is a good book, I had some difficulties reading it which was highlighted above, it also has a few grammatical errors.
The themes that stand out most to me are sacrifice and love. The writers were able to tell through the stories of Yaser and Nadia that the live we lead is a sacrifice without which our very existence could be meaningless. Through the story of Elais, readers will appreciate that love could just be an expectation that might not be realized.
In all, I recommend it to be read by almost everyone because the book will appeal to a wide range of people; Married couples, single persons, divorced parents and children will have a lesson or two to take to heart after reading this book.
