Love has proven its magnificent power in countless of ways through different generations. It even shines the brightest among the virtues humankind has known. Even death cannot extinguish love to walk the corners of the world. It always finds its way back to the people whose souls had been destined by the stars to be a part of the same constellation. Soulmates in the past, present, and in the future.

Yesterday: A Novel of Reincarnation by Samyann is a fictional, romance/historical novel that depicts a story of love which continues to thrive through generations. It only takes a new form with new names and faces, and the sequence of its history repeats itself inevitably with happiness and heartbreaks.

Any love story starts with eye contact, however, it is a rare of an occasion to subconsciously know a stranger you have just met. The day Amanda Parker and Officer Mark Callahan clapped eyelashes to each other, they felt the same sense of déjà vu telling them they know one another, just could not quite figured it out how. Mark knew it was very unsettling to realize how familiar Amanda's blue eyes were to him. She was a total stranger, but making sure she would be fine after her hospitalization was a rational thing to do for she saved his life. Visiting her long after her injuries had healed is way out of the call of his duties. He knew it but cannot help himself from seeing her. Amanda cannot just allow this handsome officer to think that she was leading him on. There was something about the man that made her feel her heart is bare to his eyes. However, she cannot permit things to grow romantically between them. She had brought bad luck to the people around her, and she would do the same to Mark. Something that striked her harder than she could even admit herself. Both knew they were connected to each other; but as the one was persistent to come close, the other was stubbornly trying to get far.

Reincarnation is a rare theme for a novel as far as my readimg scope is concerned. However, it never fails to captivate my hopeless romantic side and fall in love with the story and the characters. This novel deals with historical background involving famous happenings and landmarks in Chicago. Learning history, sugar-coated through a fictional story, is a great way not to bore someone's eyes out through the pages. I learned a great deal of trivias from this novel, thank you so much to the author. As for the story, it initially feels like I was reading another modern day fairytail. Kill those cockroaches in my neighbor, because I was proven wrong. Mark and Amanda's characters are perfect for modern day couples, but the intangible struggle they have to deal with is their story's appeal. Samyann gave a different approach to bring to life a love story that continues to live on, yet differs per generation of its existent.

I gave a 3 out of 4 rating for this novel. The story made me really want to just hang on with the pages, or else I would find myself lost through the timeline. However, I just find some of the revelations a bit late for one of the characters. It made me think the reincarnation was one-sided, not until the last chapters unleashed important details. The late revelations made the ending a bit rushed in my opinion. If these said details had been mentioned and scattered in different earlier chapters, that would properly establish the connections between the characters. Overall, I enjoyed reading romance and learning history at the same time. Speaking of which, I wonder what my past life was like? Do you ever wonder, too?
