Teaching the kids on how to become skilled readers early ensures their success in life and in school. Kids sometimes associate themselves with the pictures in the stories making them imagine they are in the adventure. In the case of Puffy and the Formidable Foe, this makes kids have a lot of fun which then boosts up their brain development.

Puffy and the Formidable Foe by Marie G. Lepkowski, Ann M. Hannon, and Margaret B. Hannon is a book targeted to sharpen up the kid's brains through an adult guide. The characters in the story are themselves exciting; Puffy and Kitty. It is an adventurous book whereby the cat went hunting for a rat. Conversely, when the rat poked into a hole, a mole came up and surprisingly the cat run away. At the end, the main character has to endure the shampoo wash which seems unpleasant after failing to get his luck. At this point, the story doesn't have a lovely flow. However, the book has the basics of how to read for kids.

On the other hand, the authors have made a point that the book should be read to the kid loudly, this makes the learner have a connection between the things he or she loves. Besides, the book is rhyming, it has multiple language sounds. For example in (pg. 11) the word scene and obscene and (pg. 13) the words beware and hair. The drawing in the book makes the book interesting to the kid because at the end there is a chance to participate in coloring the book. Furthermore, the title of the book dovetails with the story.

The only problem with the book is that the authors have not included stimulating connections to the kids' brains in the book. For example, in (pg.9), which reads "So off he scampered into the woods" the author would have had it like this "So off he scampered into the woods; Whoosh!" or ("Uh oh! He poked his head into a hole" in (pg. 7). If a kid hears the parent making expressive sounds and emotions, it would foster the emotional and social development. Moreover, the book is very short, I finished reading within 5 minutes.

From this book, I have learned that it is important to read storybooks to my kids of which I have not been doing. Also, I have learned that when one feels lonely, one should weigh out the problems one will face when he has gone to roam to break boredom. Through consideration, though the book is short it fits the targeted group, I give it a rating of 3 out of 4 stars. I can only recommend the book to those parents who love reading stories to their kids and the older school going kids who can understand the short adventurous story about the amazing cat.
