This is not something I would read as I feel no person are the same, and what may bring happiness to one will not necessarily help for someone else to be happy. To me, it's each to its own. Thanks for a great review. Congrats on BOTD.

Thank you for the wonderful review. It has effectively summarized everything that one can expect to gain from reading it. The most significant takeaway from it is that it has opened our eyes to the fact that most of us tend to focus on things that are not important.

A beautiful review, for a beautiful book.
I love learning about perspectives on enlightenment and approaches.
This book does share my views, even when it comes to children, that as human beings we have more than enough love, time, and resources to share with many sentient beings,( not limited to our 'own' ideas of having more mini versions of ourselves), if we choose to open our eyes and hearts.
I will save this one for a later read.
Congratulations to the author!

I agree. Majority hold so dear to some ideologies thinking that it's the only way to feel fulfilled and happy. Little do they know there are other alternative that will contribute to their happiness. The issue about having many kids is not really a source of joy as many would have thought. Today's statistics show. This book seems to convey practical advice that will be useful when applied. I will read the book. Congratulations on being the BOTD.

With so many options for shaping one's beliefs right now, I think this book is timely. I shall then delve into it and find some answers for myself - or better questions, if there are. Thank you for your take on this book.

“Enlightenment for the Things that Really Matter” by Mark Gumbrell is a story based on historical, religious and philosophical stories used to educate readers on how to live a fulfilling life. He cited how parents may believe that having more children will bring more joy into their lives when there are thousands of children that can be adopted and not only bring joy to the family but also dramatically change the adopted child’s life. One needs to empathize with others, be kind to others and treat others with fairness in order to experience a fulfilling life. People need to be grateful for what they have instead of just acquiring more material things that will only provide temporary joy and one cannot take with them when they die. I agree with the official reviewer’s comments about the author’s comments about God. God is real and we will meet God on Judgement Day. I am glad that this book should be read by people of all religions since it is not specific to one religion.

"Enlightenment for the Things that Really Matter" by Mark Gumbrell is an illuminating journey through historical, religious, and philosophical narratives, urging readers to reconsider what truly constitutes a fulfilling life. Gumbrell adeptly challenges conventional notions, particularly regarding family dynamics and the pursuit of joy. His emphasis on empathy and kindness resonates deeply, urging us to extend compassion to all sentient beings. What captivates me most is Gumbrell's skillful weaving of personal anecdotes with profound reflections, fostering a narrative that both enlightens and inspires. While some may find fault in certain theological discussions, the book's overarching message of gratitude and prioritizing inner fulfillment over materialism shines through. I am encouraged by this review to delve into Gumbrell's work, drawn by its rich thematic exploration and universal appeal. With a meticulous plot structure and thought-provoking content, this novel earns a solid 5-star rating and comes highly recommended, especially for those intrigued by historical, religious, and philosophical discourse.

All three elements, history, religion, and philosophy are very kmportant elements of life, though they often come in disagreement with each other. I am intrigued by the book, because these three could fulfill each ither just as much as they could overrun each other. I'd love to read the author's interpretation.
