I have always thought that cultism is may be brought about by strict parents and this book kind of confirms it from your review. Thanks for the interesting review.

I agree that the lack of approval from her mother probably caused her to seek that affirmation from an outside source.
Thank you for your comment.

When an author can make you want to scream - they have done their job in my opinion! It means that you are invested in the book somehow. Nice review!

Wow the whole idea and topic is actually so intriguing, I never knew what a cult was. This seems like an interesting read and I loved how you wrapped it in such a comprehensive review!

Thank you for reading my review. It is helpful to know how easily someone could become involved in such a horrible situation.

Wow, this sounds like a really difficult book to read. But I think we should read more books like this to understand all the horrible things some people go through that we don't. Thanks for the great review!

Great review! I am, like you, misunderstood about cults. This sounds like a gut-wrenching true tale. I love when an author digs deep and reveals their deepest secrets for all to see. It makes the story more believeable and memorable.

I want to read it, but it seems really depressing. Anyway, thanks for your great review, diana lowery.
Heart! We will forget him!
You an I, tonight!
You may forget the warmth he gave,
I will forget the light.

When you have done, pray tell me
That I my thoughts may dim;
Haste! lest while you're lagging.
I may remember him!

Thanks for the excellent review! I have toyed with the idea of reading this book several times but had not decided yet. After reading your review I think I will leave this one alone! It sounds very intense. I don't believe I would be able to get through some of the abusive content you mentioned! I'm sure it was a difficult read!

diana lowery wrote: 30 Jun 2019, 08:47 Actually, it wasn't next door, which is weird that it was titled that way. I guess the author just meant that it could be going on next to you, and you would not be aware of it. Most of the cult members were educated, professional people with actual jobs and their own homes who went to this person for guidance.
I think that is what surprises me the most in cases like this, as we expect the demographics to be different from reality.
Life without a good book is something MrsCatInTheHat cannot imagine.

It really is heartbreaking, isn't it? I read this book too and your review sheds light on the things I chose to ignore . But I do still believe that it was very brave of the author to write down her experiences knowing that people are going to judge her left and right.
