Thanks for clarifying this part @Michelle Fred. And thanks for the excellent review @Faithmwangi, I think i'll give this one a skip.

This sounds like an interesting book with mostly good characterization. I think it is one that I would enjoy. Thanks for the warning, though, about the missing buildup of Lucy's relationship with Hower. Thanks for the great review!

Although fairy tales aren't the only books with happy plotlines, you're right in that I don't care for depressing stories. This one certainly sounds like that. I think I'll skip this one. Thanks for the tip and the well-written review!

I've read this book too. I think it is a story of a spoiled girl. I personally didn't like the character of Lucy. Thanks for the wonderful review!

It is interesting. Once you get to read it let me know what you think. Thanks for commenting.

It is true, a small omission of information can destroy the flow of the whole book. Thanks for commenting.

Oftentimes we are tempted to look at the negative side of people without considering what triggered them to be what they are. I believe there were a lot of insecurities in Lucy's life. Being adopted, probably by your blood father, in a setting in which whites are more preferred to colored people, I think these facts triggered her negative outlook on life. However, this does not justify her doings. Thanks for a wonderful review. I enjoyed reading it.
