Like many on here, I too found it difficult to read with the character development of Alex. It is one thing if the author is trying to prove a point, or tell some universal truth, through the immaturity or train wreck that was his main character. However, I felt that Alex wasn't meant to convey anything in particular, but was just a character who the author could have planned out more deliberately.

Hi, thanks for your review. I was also frustrated with Alex when I read this book, but it really detracted from my experience, whereas it doesn't seem to have done that for you. I think the most frustrating part was his descriptions of himself as being very intelligent when none of his actions demonstrate that.
