To him, mountaineering was an extreme form of meditation, to reason through the mess and build a better version of himself
.

David J. Mauro tells the story of his experiences climbing and summiting the tallest peaks of each of the seven continents. Sound an interesting memoir for those who enjoy stories of travel and adventure. Unfortunately, I don't read memoirs, so I will pass. Thank you for the detailed review!

"A must-read for those tempted by the wilderness, those who find themselves in a desperate loop and wish for some instructions on coping and living, and those who are looking for some form of literary excitement" - this sounds like just the book for me! My life was recently turned upside down and I'm now training to hike 14-ers in Colorado. On top of that, I love memoirs, so this is a must-read for me!

This sounds like an inspiring story. A man who found a way to work through his demons by climbing the Seven Summits. It is nothing short of amazing that a rookie could do that at almost 50! Thanks for the great review!

This sounds like a good fit for fans of memoirs, mountaineering, wilderness adventures, and inspiring tales with an anchor in spirituality. Congrats to the author on a great review. Thanks so much for sharing.

To start at such an advanced age, and not only climb one, but seven mountains is amazing. It sounds like there is not only the physical training but a spiritual and mental overhaul as well. Thank you for the great review. This sounds like it would touch many with its inspiring message.

I'm the type who likes to read the whole book at once so I don't think this book is for me.

I've read and reviewed this book a while ago and I loved it! The repetitive descriptions aren't noticeable, not to me at least. And the tone is perfect, in my opinion; a bit more dramatic and the book would feel more like fiction. The story is very inspiring! Climbing mountains is tough, even more when you start at age 44. Reading the book helps to believe that everything is possible.

I started with the free sample. This book starts out pretty great. I can definitely see how he uses mountain climbing to help him in his personal matters as well. Congrats for BOTD!

Mountain climbing could be a metaphor for battling one's demons, and the author of this book shows the way about how to overcome life's hardships by climbing mountains.

I read the prologue for this story and found myself immediately interested The storyline seems to moves quickly; as one man, due to numerous circumstances, has deemed himself a failure. He is then introduced to something he has never done before, which surprisingly, gives him purpose, and also his life back. I love stories like this! I intend to read this book. Congrats on #BOTD!

This book was worth the while, after reading so many books that add too many intrigues, only succeeding to impart the benefit of a good story line to the reader. It doesn't just inspire me to get my boots for adventure, but it gives me a guide to what mountaineering looks that have before this book been a total Herculean task for a young person like me.
Only that I am considering my ankles and thighs for the aches I might get after a first peek into the bush.
Maurio's easy life as a financial expert in Washington state United states at age 44 was overun by divorce and he became depressed. Climbing mountain peaks like years later: Denali in Alaska, Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Elbrus in Russia, Vinson Massif in Antarctica, the Carstensz Pyramid in Indonesia, and finally, Everest in Asia. However, the therapeutic help he got helped him in his conquests remarkably as he progressed from being a naïve beginner tackling Denali to a focused mountaineer surmounting Everest . His love-life ignited and revived in 2007, when he found love through a very surprising encounter online.

This book sounds insightful. I would read it for its themes of self-doubt, self-exploration, winning over one's own fears. Congratulations to the author on an awesome review of his book.

Sounds like an interesting book, although probably not one that I would pick up. However, if more authors would do what you describe "admiration for the visual magnificence - as if I was there with him" that would be amazing! That kind of work really draws the reader in and keeps you moving with the story.

Thank you for your review. It was well written and made me more excited to read The Altitude Journals. I read the free sample on Amazon and from the first page as I was reading I had a smile on my face. I am interested in reading the rest of this book. Thank you again for your review of The Altitude Journals. :D :D
