I only read a few chapters. I found it too introspective and manic. It almost gave me a headache and I wondered about the mental health of those individuals..... When I read I want to get out of my head and enjoy the world. Just not my type of book but I'm glad you enjoyed it. Something for everyone.

I've only read one other book by this author and I'm ready to check this one out. Let's see what else he writes!

This book sounds very interesting and I did not realize that there were different types of Jewish people. I like that the novel brings in the history of Israel which is complicated in itself. I do agree that this is more of a memoir than a novel, but I can understand the author's marketing decisions. My favorite part is him living in his homeland as Rachel and coming back to his roots.

Very interesting premise! Seems like a novel plot and I have to agree, the author's marketing strategy is funny.

I sampled this book and I did like the poetic parts. They were very lyrical. Thank you for your review. With it, I understood what the book was all about.

This seems really interesting! I do not often read books about other countries and have found myself wanting to venture out more and get an understanding for those I cannot visit. From your review it sounds like this is a bit political but at such a short page length I may jump in and check it out anyway. I love the premise of it so I'm glad you enjoyed it, even with the negatives.

Great review!

This book is the perfect example of why we should never judge a book by its cover. I would have passed on this book if not for this review. Now, I'm curious to give it a try.

Chrys Brobbey, this is a very well-thought review!

I have read a few of Mois Benarroch's novel, and admire the metafictional character of his works. Most of them, truly, contain a lot of typos, something that can really put me off reading, I'm afraid. I will put Raquel Says in my to-read shelf as the author strikes me as an odd fellow.

Looking forward to reading your next review! :hand:

Thank you for the well-written review, Chrys. I read and reviewed Benarroch's The Immigrant's Lament and The Expelled, the first being a poetry collection and the second being a novel. I enjoyed his poetry much more than his prose, so maybe the mixed poetic/prose feel of this novel will suit me better than The Expelled. Benarroch explores these themes of being ostracized and living as a foreigner in a foreign land in most of his work. That's what I've found, at least, and I really appreciate reading his perspective on the matter. I'll be sure to pick up this book when I next have a break in my "to read" list.

The more things you will know.
The more that you learn,
The more places you'll go.

Good review. I've read one of this author's books before and found the translation didn't come off well. I'm glad that this doesn't seem to be the case with this one

Any love story rated 5 out of 5* by honest reviewers, like "Raquel Says (Something Entirely Unexpected)" by Mois Ben arroch, must be lovable and exciting. The review is nice and informative.

I was taken with Chrys Brobbey's writing style in this review. If the [novel/not really a novel] is as interesting as the review it should be a very good read. Learning about the creation of an alter ego in an alternative universe, as the book promo reads on Amazon, or as a literary construct used by the author as a more surreal way of self-expression per Brobbey's review, has an equal attraction for me and I'd like to find out which review, Brobbey's or Amazon's, is closer to the spirit of the book.
