Sounds like an interesting read, though I’m not sure if it’s really a book I’d personally enjoy. Especially with a main character that’s so self-centered.

I am in the midst of reading this book, and your review was a nice addition to the book itself as there are so many characters and themes. I thought you summed it all up nicely here without giving away any of the spoilers. Thank you for this insightful review.

I have read one of Mr. Coles's works before. He always does a great job, and this one sounds no different. I love his characters as they are always realistic and drive the plot. Thanks for a great review. I'll definitely have to put this one on my list to read.

William Coles is back on the “Book of the Day” list with his tale of a self-important, self-centered, and ambitious surgeon who’s spotty ethics and actions gets him in trouble with the law. With sub-notes addressing healthcare, journalism, and philanthropy, Coles' work sounds fantastic.

I like your review. Unfortunately, I do not think this book is my type. I like more fantasy than fiction.

This is a book that spotlights the backwash of arrogance and selfishness. The story has a fascinating and suspenseful plot and well-developed characters that are interestingly relatable. I like the way the author explored the politics involved in healthcare and journalism institutions and the consequent need and fight for good journalism; fair reporting with truth and balance.

Interesting start, made Hiram out as the bad guy right off the bat LOL. Left 1 for dead , sleeping around with impunity and stabbed a colleague in the back. let's see where else this can go.....

McDowell certainly sounded like he was successful but arrogant and selfish, which then landed him in prison. I am surprised he escaped prison. The book must be good if you had a hard time putting it down. I wonder if McDowell's changes will make a difference to his family in the end.

I enjoyed your review. I am still not sure I want to read this book. Some of the themes sound interesting, but McDowell's character does not seem appealing. I will have to read the sample before I decide.

I added this book to my not interested in reading shelf because I don't think I will enjoy reading about the politics in healthcare and journalism institutions. Sounds like a fascinating and well thought out plot though. Congrats to the author.

Not my kind of a book, but I like that it deals with selfishness as a psychological trait, emphasizing it. I think I will give it a shot because of its complex main character.

As a medically trained professional I knew politics played a big role in how the medical world is run. To see it exposed, so to speak, in a novel is new to me, in a good way!
Leaving a person to die while trying to get down from a mountain, gathering a memory sake from another, already dead person, ending up as the chairman of the board of surgeons. All in all Hiram is not a nice guy and as do most overly occupied men, he has a reason for not being nice, his disfunctional families! Add to that several affairs and lots of money and wait for the plot!
The problem with reviews of previews is, I have to wait for the book to be published, wait very impatiently! McDowel is a book worth waiting for!

I am young university administrator with over nine years of work experience in the college of medicine of the university of lagos. The author depicts professionalism and I found the book very interesting, thought-provoking and insightful.
