If I have to be honest, I don't really enjoy this style of writing. The prose and use of first person is not my cup of tea. However, as a piece of literature, I cannot say I didn't enjoy this book. It was at times so interesting I couldn't stop reading. Although the thought of the author seems to be winding everywhere and nowhere at the same time, I encourage you to read to the end.

The part of the invisible hand leaving a message makes the novel be interesting. The title of the book " Raquel says ( Something Entirely Unexpected) makes it a bit confusing. The author also creates curiosity by creating a real person, in this case a woman born same year with him, and from his own city; a fictional character he's always based on called Raquel. We also feel and share in his loneliness of being in exile in Israel where his parents who are separdic jews are discriminated upon as they are seen as a challenge and threat to Israeli society for not being Western enough. Thanks for the very good descriptive review and for the free online copy.

This is a great read about love and sacrifice. two souls who love each other unconditionally but circumstances do not support them. The odds are against them.Raquel, the fictional character is a mystery to uncover as one reads the pages of this master piece.

The subject of the book sounds way too heavy for me, so I don't think I'll ever be compelled to pick it up, but I really appreciate the review, since it was very well thought out. Nicely done!

A number of qualities endeared me to this book, not the least is the author style of writing in prose and poetry. Again, I found some of the issues like "perceived racism" to be quite informative and educative .Though I heard this is one in a series but then I believe its worth looking into in spite of the grammatical flaws and alleged poor translation.

A well-written review of what sounds like a complex read. This book is one I will have to pass on as I struggle with surrealism and, while the cultural aspect sounds interesting, the topics sound a bit too complicated for my liking.

A beautiful review to an otherwise complex subject. The author's style enables him to handle sensitive and divisive subjects, making them subtle and easily flowing right under the noses of non discerning persons. His scarstic style permeates most of his works.

I thought this book's going to be funny, I don't know what gave me that idea. This sounds too deep for what I'm looking for right now, though. Great review!

This one isn't for me, I'm afraid. I'm not into poetry, other than Poe. I think the fact that it goes back and forth between poetry and a novel, or whatever, would drive me insane. I downloaded the book, and if I feel adventurous one day, I may give it a go, but I'm so busy right now I think it may be more of a frustration for me. Great review though.

I am not really sure if your review is on a positive side or what. It doesn't reflect the 4 stars you gave. But enough to make me interested in the story. I honestly have not read any memoir book yet but I've always love to read one. My love for poetry is perpetual and immaculate. So if you say that this is a part or somewhat poetry (did you say that or that's a reply?) I would love it tremendously. Thanks for a good review!

This seems like a complex yet beautiful story that has so much to it. I don't like that it was translated from its original form, because I feel that something always can get lost in translation.

After reading your review and today's preview I want to find out more about what Raquel has to say. Mois Benarroch has previously been a book of the day author. I do like his stories.
