Wow,from the name I was wondering what kind of book is this but from the summary I feel like I have read the entire book. It sure feels like an interesting read & will teach people to break away from all forms of manipulations & abuse.

Thank you for your interesting review. This sounds like an important book warning us that cults are not always religious. They may sound legitimate at first, but then they become abusive and controlling. Because of the seriousness of this subject, I think I will pass on reading it. Congratulations on being selected BOTD.

I like your review of this book and I how much you enjoyed reading it. I think that people get involved in these organizations which become cult-like because they want a sense of belonging to something bigger than themselves. They want to feel that someone cares about them and that they are not alone. Many times people don't realize how manipulated they are until they leave the organization for good.

That is quite a topic to discuss. Cults are dangerous, they may take everything from people starting with material things and ending with their lives. I'm glad the author was able to tell her story. Congratulations on becoming BOTD!

Abuse of any kind is a very sensitive subject, and cults are an especially taboo subject for those who have been caught up by a charismatic leader. The author is brave to share her experiences with the world. Thank you for a well-written and comprehensive review.

When cults are mentioned, people think of religious leaders. What they forget is that a person with authority can use duress or undue influence to hold another person hostage.
In that economic, financial or emotional hostage, people tend to be manipulated. Most manipulators appear to genuinely assist while to the contrary they are taking a person to the emotional abyss. Thanks for this review

This review is very helpful to give a little bit more background for the book. However, I still don’t think I would be interested in reading it.

Thank you for your review, it was wonderful to read. It amazes me the horrible things people can do to each other, but I'm happy that she got herself out of the situation and wrote about it to expose people to what's going on. I would imagine a book like this helping others to recognise some of the symptoms in their own situation and prompt them to get help. This one is now on my 'to read' shelf :)

I know from personal experience how difficult it is to step away from a situation where a person who should be trustworthy is hurting you. I believe a book like this would be triggering for me, but I can see it being helpful for those who have never experienced abuse and would like to better understand. It's always great to see a book that receives no complaints from the reviewer!

This is a real life situation that can happen to anyone of us. It illustrates clearly how easy it is to be drawn into a cult by somebody you trust. True to a lot of other areas of our lives.
Great book, well written and easy to read

This actually looks like a really interesting read. Armageddon cults are still more active than most people seem to be aware of today. There's a lot to be found about them but I'd never heard of this one. I'm definitely going to read it.

I wish the cover was a bit more professional because this sounds like something that could be really helpful for anyone struggling with a loved one in a cult or similar situation.
I was born with a reading list I will never finish.

"The Cult Next Door" by Elizabeth R. Burchard and Judith L. Carlone, is a #Memoir that chronicles Elizabeth's #NonFiction story of sexual, emotional, spiritual, financial, and physical abuse that lasts for over two decades. It is a message of hope to those who had been trapped by persons who would not let them go.

I'd love to hear Elizabeth's encouragement and how she managed to get out from the claws of George Sharkman. Thanks for the succinct review.
