McDowell by William H. Coles. This book is about Dr. Hiram McDowell, a self-absorbed and arrogant surgeon who only cares about himself. When it came to his job and his personal life, he feels like he can get away with anything. He is on his third marriage to Carole Mastriano, a widow he met in Denver but their marriage is falling apart. He even has a strained relationship with his three kids, Ann, Sophie, and Billie.

The book starts off with McDowell and other climbers climbing up a mountain in the Himalayas where it is bitterly cold. One of his hiking friends, Eric Woolf is getting tired so he tells McDowell to keep going but when Mcdowell comes back from climbing, McDowell is too weak to carry Woolf back down to the bottom of the mountains and leaves him there to die along with the others.

Coles does a very good job in analyzing the characters in the book. I really like that Coles went into detail about each characters' thoughts. I have never read a book whereas the author would go into detail about the characters' thoughts. I thought that was really awesome. I felt like I was actually seeing what they were thinking.

The one thing I didn't like about this book was that Coles didn't go into depth about certain situations that happen between the characters. It was like I had to remember where I left off at in each chapter. It was kind of confusing because each chapter had a different character and a different situation. There was always a big gap in between.

I really enjoyed this book. There was always a surprise and a bit of a shock every time I would turn the page. If you're like me and love books that have a lot of drama and suspense, then this is the book for you. I would give this book a 4 out of 4 stars.
