Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat is the seventh book in the Inca Cat Detective Series by R.F. Kristi. It is a children’s book about a Cat detective named Inca, who is also the head of a detective agency called Inca & Company.
The book explores Inca’s adventures on the beautiful island of Sri Lanka, as she attempts to solve the mystery of a stolen antique sword. Along for the ride are her siblings, the incorrigible Fromage, and the prissy Cara. Other members of the gang include their beloved hamster, Charlotte, and their detective doggy friend Terrance. They also befriend a sea turtle named Rani, and a baby elephant named Meena.
I fell in love with the book from the start. The writing flowed beautifully, and the illustrations added some flair to the story. It may have been written for a much younger audience, but I enjoyed reading this book. I liked how easy, effortless, and fun Kristi made learning about other cultures. Kristi’s description of locations and unique places of interest was apt without being too complicated for a child to imagine.
Each character was cute and lovable. I would have loved it if the book had more illustrations than it did, but it did not prevent me from enjoying the book as is. I was having such a good time reading it; I was a little sad when it ended. Kids between the ages of five and ten would certainly appreciate this book.
The book was well-written and appeared professionally edited. I could not find any errors whatsoever. Asides from being a fun read, the educational value of this book cannot be overemphasized. As such, I award this book 4 out of 4 stars. I plan on acquiring the remaining books in the series for my kids.
