Inca & Company strike again in this thrilling adventure story by The Inca Cat Detective Series creator, R.F. Kristi. Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula is the 8th book in the series. It follows Inca & Company as they journey across the Korean peninsula with their owners, Missy and Solo. Their mission is to reunite a separated family. Other tasks include protecting their mom’s new cheese from sabotage at the hands of a bitter rival cook.
Inca’s mom has been selected to be one of the judges of a French patisserie competition to be held in South Korea. A special event will also be held there, where she is to present her new cheese. What follows for Inca & Company is an incredible adventure to South Korea, filled with beautiful sights, two thwarted cheese-related mishaps, great new friendships, and a daring rescue.
What stands out for me is Kristi’s ability to put herself in the mind of a cat and express their mannerisms effortlessly enough for the reader to find believable. It was both amusing and fun to read. It also allowed the narration of the story to flow in an enlightening yet uncomplicated manner.
Secondly, the way Kristi weaved the issue of the North and South Korean divide, the effect on the people, and efforts at reconciliation into the story was done so elegantly and in such a fashion that kids would have no problem understanding and appreciating the plot.
I noticed two errors in the book, not enough to detract from the overall quality of the editing which appeared professional. The illustrations were top notch. I award this book 4 out of 4 stars. It is my second book in the series, and I am yet to be disappointed. I would recommend this book to elementary school kids.
